Description:

After two years of hard work, it is now finally time to release the 1.0 version of Crystal SVG

This is probably the biggest update of Crystal, allot of icons have been redesigned, others have been added, special care was given to Koffice and Kopete.

Thanks to:

Connectiva - For financing me in the beginning of this project

Suse - For supporting me and the project in 2003

Lindows - Who has hired me as their staff, and will support Crystal from now on.

LinuxCult - Who thru NullMind hosts my sites and online projects.

And to my Wife .. who has been patient and very forgiving for all the time I spend on the project instead of with her, and to God almihty who makes it all possible.

And last, a special thanks to all the KDE developers who make it the best desktop manager out there !!

Than you for everything

* - Altorught this version is known as "SVG", the icons are still in PNG format, the SVG files will be relased once the support for the format improves in KDE.

This guy is a real fiasco.

well i think there is a campaign against everaldo.
this is totaly unfaire he is the man that ivented the style that nuvuola has that i have and that we all love.
but i was especting this.
(everando o seu trabalho é genial, apesar de os untimos serem tecnicamente quase perfeitos estão a perder aquela simplicidade da qual eu gosto no entanto sem dulvida que andamos aqui todos a copiar :))
as svg goes he as already said that he would put them up as soon as kde canged to svg.
and if you search enough you will find a loot off them i have about 50% of them.

You think you can design Crystal icons for Firefox? That'll be really nifty if you do!

this new "red roof" home icon is ... well, not bad actually but there's not even one blue pixel :-) the older one (all-blue) were much more "crystal"

There seems to be an error in the entry 'Directories=' in index.desktop that causes messages like:
kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/kde/3.2/share/icons/crystal/ group not valid.

The entry looks like:
Directories=16x16/actions,...,128x128/mimetypes,,48x48/devices,...,128x128/actions

It probably should look like:
Directories=16x16/actions,...,128x128/mimetypes

btw, nice work

The beta version is deservedly the default in Mandrake-10, and this release is better still. I noticed the clearer Konqueror toolbar arrows and new home and refresh buttons. The symbolic-link overlay on the mini-icons is barely visible, though, and needs to be bigger, but I've no other complaints now.

I use your icons, and it's really beautiful !

And a question : what is the window style we can see on the screenshot ?

Yeh the lindows company employed the guy who makes these icons to do all their graphic work for them. I suppose lindows cant suck at everything.

I love your icons...
I use only CrystalSVG ones everywhere !

But I would want to be able to modify it.
Or simply generate them in other sizes...
I would want to create new ones (especialy folders with icons, such as folder_music).
I would want to study how they are made to learn how to create my own icons style...

Please : you're on free software platform : sources are needed.

Thank you a lot !

You're Crystal icon set is simply beautiful. I'm anxious to check out the SVG versions (via Inkscape probably).

BTW, what is the license on these icons?

For example, could I use a Crystal icon in a webpage?

Thanks again,
Jules

After installing Crystal 1.0, every time I start some apps from the command line (like kwrite) I get this message:

kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /home/iryoku/.kde/share/icons/crystal/ group not valid.

With the beta version that cames with KDE I don't have this problem. I think that some people have this problem too, but I don't have found a solution :(

Can someone help?

Thanks ^_^

I also get a KIconLoader warning too when i load some programs (JuK)
which ends up with some icons looking weird(out of place or not the correct icons).

kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/crystal/ group
not valid.
kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/ group not valid.

I just wanted to offer a possible suggestion to improve some (IMHO) inconsistencies or potentially confusing aspects of the icons (from a usability standpoint).

The icon for favorites and services are almost identical (both are yellow stars). This can be rather confusing as two totally different concepts are represented using two virtually indistinguishable icons (especially at small sizes like in the navigation panel in konq).

In addition, I have noticed that the favorite's folder icon uses a heart as opposed to the star. Possibly this is due to the fact that Crystal is constantly a work in progress. But in any case, for consistency, I think that a single visual representation should be presented for such a concept. In fact, I think that both these concerns could be addressed by switching the favorites icon to a heart (keeping the heart overlayed on a folder for the favorites' folder icon) while keeping the yellow start for services. Obviously other ways exist for fixing this slight inconsistency, but this seemed like the easiest since it requires the least creation of new icons.

Comments anyone?

My icons are totaly messed up, which means there are actually none at all. This happended after selecting the crystal 1.0 icon scheme from kde control center.
From now on control center crashes whenever I select "Icons" (no chance to change anything in there).
I figured out that these settings are stored in /home/username/.kde/config/kdeglobals
(not 100% sure), but the theme is set to "crystal" (looks right, at least for me...). Before I used the red hat 9 default scheme called "Bluecurve". But when I overwrite "crystal" with "Bluecurve" nothing changes! still no icons at all. So here's obviously my question: How can I revert to the default scheme (or any working scheme at all)? It's really a pain that way. ;-(
Thanx alot,

googleybear

ps: the older ones (don't know which version) worked.

Since most people don't use external modems, using a picture of one as the dialup icon is a bad idea. A telephone or phone jack would be a better idea.

The mounted hard drive/unmounted hard drive bug has been fixed- good work!

The new KOffice icons are fantastic! Much better than the old ones- except at smaller sizes. When it's scaled down (like in the menus), they don't look very good anymore. I would suggest using the original KOffice icons (before 1.0 update) for the small sizes, and the new icons for the big sizes. It may not look so consistent, but "mini" icons are pretty cool!
