Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
Darkish translucent desktop setup based on Obsidian Coast colour scheme.
Integrated windows and borders if you use the matching Aurorae theme.
Requires the QtCurve window style later than 1.4 (or whenever transperancy was introduced)

So my problem isn't theme related at all.
Desktop effects are enabled as is Translucency, yet some 'process' keeps disabling desktop effects.
When attempting to re-enable desktop effects I get this message through via 'notification'.
"Desktop effects have been suspended by another application. You can resume using the 'Alt+Shift+F12' shortcut.
This happens each time I attempt to re-enable desktop effects.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?
My system is relatively new, (3 months old) so it's not that the hardware is dodgy or underpowered.
Cheers.

Correct syntax for the window decoration folder is "darktranslucent" (one word, lowercase, no hyphen).
Please let me know if this helps. Also did you install it through the GUI tools or did you do it manually? Shame if this happened to you automatically.

I'm using KDE 4.5.1 and I simply can't find the appropriate menu where I can choose to load/import the downloaded archive. Could you please give me a hand there? Thanks in advance.

You need to unpack the archive and place the Aurorae decoration (folder containing 6 files) in your aurorae/themes directory. Mine is: ~/kde4/share/apps/aurorae/themes/
If its in this folder properly you will be able to select it from System Settings / Workspace Appearance / Window Decoration.
The QtCurve config can be imported to QtCurve from System Settings / Application Appearance/ Style - QtCurve configure / import.
I hope that makes sense but it's late and I need sleep.

as I said it was late. It could also be under ~/.kde/share/apps/aurorae/
all depends on your system.
Make sure you have a recent versionn of QtCurve too. Good luck.

I remember in former KDE versions there was an option to choose Aurora as windows decorator. This option doesn't exist any more and that's why I couldn't figure out how to install the theme. I guess Aurora has somehow been integrated into kwin itself.
I unpacked the archive and moved the contained directory to ~/.kde/share/apps/aurorae/themes/Dark-Translucent-arorae and I imported the QtCurve config like you told me. No I'm able to to choose the theme as a "window decoration" and I can also choose it when I open the QTCurve options.
But: I still don't get any transparency on any window.
I am running KUbuntu Lucid and I installed every recent and available update and KDE 4.5.1. Is there something I missed?

Otherwise the only thing I could think of was perhapps QtCurve needs to be updated, transperancy was only fairly recently supported I think. Maybe the Ubuntu repository isn't as up to date as it could be, I'm by no means certain though as I use Arch.
You could check your QtCurve version against the one hosted on kde-look.

Any way I could check more precisely?

Maybe there's a testing repository with a newer version in it?
Perhapps someone here running Ubuntu could suggest something.
I wonder if that cat a few comments back with Gentoo got it working in the end. I think they had the same issue.

I have a question about the KDE's (panel) taskbar: ¿What plasmoid or plug-in are you using for it looks like OS X taskabar? (I'm not questioning about the Xbar).
Greetings.

about the translucent thingy.. i use Gentoo, upgraded to KDE 4.5 from the overlay to test it out but it didn't work.
I guess it's something with aurorae in gentoo, maybe it might take a while for it to be fully integrated..
what distro are you using?
how about KDE, is it from the official repositories?
anyway, you did a great work, congratulations!!
can't wait to have it working properly with gentoo!!

I'm using Arch with KDE4.5 which I installed when it was in the testing repo. It should be pretty vanilla KDE but I'm not sure of that.
I have QTCurve 1.5.2, but I don't know which version started supporting transperancy.
What's actually happening on your end? Is the problem QTCurve (window) or Aurorae (border) related? Are you using compositing? With desktop effects turned off transperancy won't work as far as I know. Wish I could give you more help but I'm not familliar with Gentoo. I'd be surprised if it's a Gentoo problem though.
