OpenOffice.org1.1 toolbar icon themes

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles

Description:

This is a tcl script for generating OOo toolbar/menu icon themes, from kde (or other) icon sets.

Rather than focusing on individual themes for each icon set, I decided to provide a tool so that the users can create their own custom icon themes. That said, some common icon-themes from kde-look are enclosed (base = crystal).

Install
-------

Extract the downloaded file.
* To install the default theme in OOo 1.1.x, run:
"tclsh quickInstall.tcl"

* To install any custom themes,
Specify your OOo config directory in config.tcl and the theme directory, run:
"tclsh genbar.tcl"

I've always wanted OO.org to look more like KDE and this makes it so easy, even if I change my icon theme.

that would be nice... having the look of ximian's OO.o, but not the pain of building it.

just a thought....

The pain of building the Ximian edition was worth it, IMHO. Mild integration with GNOME seems more like something to be tolerated than praised, but other than that, the little things like its ability to treat MS Office documents as if they were native was the real deal-winner.

This is great! Keep this rolling and get someone to make some kde icons for the rest of OOo .... that would have been great!!!!

I've tried the latest version (0.3) with OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 on mdk 9.1 and it crashes oowriter. If I enable bitmap masking it works ok, but it looks really ugly. Did anybody get this to work on OOo 1.0.2 without bitmap masking? Thanks.

Hi. I like the idea very much!
What about a MS Office Theme? This would help some users to change the whole system. KDE can also switch to a Windows look. So this would be the perfect "camouflage system" ;-)

What do you think about this?

PS: I didn't think KDE users would prefer to use Windows theme, so I did not put it as part of dynamically generated themes.

That's right. And I don't like it either ;-)
But in our company we try to migrate some clients to linux. My client is running SuSE with a nice theme from KDE-LOOK.org.
And I like it very much. But there are some people who work every day with windows. They don't want to migrate :-(
So we have to make it as easy as possible.
It was just an idea ;-)

Good work!

If you extract the tar.gz file, there is an "Extras" folder, which contains a static config Windows theme (win_soffice.cfg.zip).

Its not tested, but you can try it out and let us know if it works (in Windows).

Yes it works fine in Windows-thanks very much!

Even as a windows user (for the moment) I actually prefer the KDE save and print icons though.

Is there a way to make the windows theme work with the 'small' icon setting?

This is supposed to be a tool to create any icon theme u wish. So what u can do is select the icons from kde-look (there are many windoes look alike themes here) and send them to me (download v 0.3 and check slotlist.csv to see what icons can be used).

I'll generate the icon theme and email it to u :).

For next release, I can provide a "static" windows icon theme config directory.

That would be very much appreciated! Any of the themes illustrated above would vastly improve the look of OOo on Windows-and no doubt have a role in encouraging many more people to use it.

I used to use the theme from Evolved OpenOffice, but alas this doesn't seem to work on 1.1.

Replying to the previous question, my guess is that it most probably will work for StarOffice... you can try that out.

Windows... well, that requires quite a few changes to the script.... maybe after the next release? (unless someone volenteers)

I'll second that! They look fantastic and I'd love to use them on the Windows version of OOo.

I was hoping for some assistance, i have tried to run this with the config file altered to where the config directory is in /home/user/.openoffice etc but it gives me the 'functionbar.xml' can not be found.. any help would be greatly appreciated...

from what i see though this is really going to improve the looks of Openoffice.. can't wait!

Restore soffice.cfg.bak0, start OOo, do some small change to function bar (e.g. make some icon not visible), and exit.

Rerun the script.
If problem persists,
set set addNav "false";

Let me know how that works.

Right, same problem here,

did the small change to function bar, reran script, problem persisted,

set addNav to false, reran script, got:

couldn't execute "convert": no such file or directory
while executing

installed ImageMagick, now it works.

Thanks!

It's really fantastic.

I'll try to convert some icons myself and I hope a lot of other people will join you.
