Description:

Plastikfox is a theme for Mozilla Firefox to make it have the same look as the KDE programs with the Plastik style and the Crystal SVG 1.0 icon set.

ABOUT THE OK AND CANCEL BUTTONS: Firefox 1.5 doesn't have OK and Cancel buttons anymore in the Options dialog but it's possible to enable them again. Just write "about:config" in the address bar, search for the key "browser.preferences.instantApply" and set it to false. The OK and Cancel buttons should be there back again.

BUTTON ORDER: You can reverse the button order in the dialog boxes so they are like in the other KDE applications. Simply click "Reverse button order" to install a patch to activate this feature.

COLOR SCHEME: Plastikfox doesn't follow the KDE color scheme. Remember it's just a theme for Firefox, so it's impossible to do it. It's made with the 'Plastik' color scheme. If you want to change the color scheme you'll have to modify the theme manually.

Thanks to Everaldo for his Crystal SVG icon sets. You can get them at:

-------------------------------------
HOW TO INSTALL
-------------------------------------

If you have an older version of the theme, uninstall it before installing a new one.

· Extract the files anywhere you want
· Open the install.html file in Firefox (you don't need to be 'root')
· Click the "Install" button
· Accept when it prompts for the theme installation
· 'Tools' menu - Themes
· Select 'Plastikfox Crystal SVG' and click 'Use this theme'
· Restart Firefox (VERY IMPORTANT!)
· Enjoy!

If you want, you may delete the downloaded files once the theme is installed.

I don't recommend you using nightly builds. They can explode in your hands. Remember they are development snapshots. The "no binding for browser" might be something that has not been implemented yet or a bug recently introduced. That message also appeared sometimes in Firefox 0.8 and had nothing to do with Plastikfox. I can't get Plastikfox to work with nightlies because there are constant changes in Firefox while it's being developed and I can't be guessing what has changed between one nightly and another. That would be too much work and no real benefits.

Hey there dude, really like the theme. Best FireFox theme by far!

I'm having a problem though--for some reason the icons in the bottom left of the screen aren't displaying. The area of the screen still comes up with "Signed by xyz" or "Change popup blocking settings for this website" but no icon ever appears.

I'm using the latest version of both firefox and PlastikFox and it's very weird.

The area of the page in question looks like this, noticably (in this example) missing the "secure padlock" icon.

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Try again with Plastikfox 1.2.1. This issue has been fixed.

I encourage everybody to update to this version if they were using previous versions because now everything should work very well and without noticeable bugs. Now the next step will be to make Plastikfox compatible with the Tabbrowser extensions and I'm probably going to investigate how to make Firefox use the standard KDE open/save dialogs.

Does it also happen with Plastikfox 1.1? If it doesn't happen, I think I know what's the problem and I'll fix it in the next update. If it also happens, then I'll have to do further investigation. That's why it would be very useful to me to know wheter it happens in 1.1 or not.

You may download Plastikfox 1.1 from:

Ok, then I think I know what's the problem. I'll fix it in Plastikfox 1.2.1 soon. I finish my university exams the next week so probably I'll wait till then before working on the update. Stay tuned.

Hi djworld! Just wanted to add that the "choose alternative stylesheet" button in the bottom left corner seems to be borked as well. Thanks for this beautiful theme!

I have already posted this on here, but I am using this theme + windows and the checkbox checked image does not show up. On my linux box it shows, but not in windows. Any ideas?

Any idea why my previous post about this was deleted?

OK, so it's working now for some reason. Not sure why, but I'm happy :)

This is really cool, but the icons look too large for me. Is it possible to make them smaller? Better yet, is it possible to use the default firefox 0.9 icons instead?

Nice work.

Thanks

The answer to the first question is YES. Go to View - Toolbars - Customize. You'll see a checkbox that says "Use small icons". Active it and voièla!

About the icons, actually it's not possible to use the original Firefox icons. You need to modify the theme if you want to have different icons. If you have time to spend on it, you might uncompress the jar file of the theme (it's in ZIP format) and replace every icon you find with its equivalent in the original theme. To get the icons in the Firefox theme search for a file called "classic.jar" inside the "chrome" directory of your Firefox installation and uncompress it. When you're done you just need to replace the old theme with the one you've modified.

Great theme, Do you know if it's possible to theme the html form buttons and textboxes in firefox? because the browser looks nice in plastik, but the webform buttons still look very ugly.

Right now it's not possible, but I'm investigating the way to change the look of the widgets inside a web page. I've been able to change some widgets like the text boxes, the radios and the buttons. I have problems with the checkboxes, which I've changed partially (they look OK when they aren't checked, but when you check them there are problems). I'm also having problems with the combo boxes. Anyway it's a matter of time. In one of the next releases I'll try to incorporate this feature. Stay tuned. ;)

If you're curious, you can take a look at this screenshot. It's Mozilla, but it can also be applied to Firefox (remember they have the same rendering engine):

If the server doesn't answer it might be offline, so try again later.

I'm using windows 2000 and for some reason the checkbox image when a checkbox is checked does not show up anywhere in firefox with your theme...in adblock's preferences as well as the regular firefox preferences. I'm using the latest version and I've tested the theme on my debian box and it has no problems, so I guess it's just windows?

Love the theme, hopefully you can correct the minor issue.

Now all we need a a Plastik theme for GNOME... So all apps on (my) desktop will look quite consitent :)

It also eliminates the 'what default theme do we choose' problem for the distro's... Cauz none op the options looks so nice as Plastik.

Have you tried Metatheme? Although it's in very alpha stage yet, it works very well. GTK apps really look like QT ones with the Plastik style.

Hi, after installing plastikfox on firefox 0.9, the size of the buttons (back, forward, refresh, home, etc.) is huge compared to what it was in 0.8. Was this done on purpose? And in either case, is there a way to change them (make them smaller)?

Thanks.

P.S. Fantastic theme - thanks a lot for it.

Seems it's Firefox who sets the icon size to big as default. Anyway it can be easily changed. Go to View - Toolbars - Customize. A popup will open where there's a checkbox that says "small icons". Just activate that checkbox and you're done.

Have you seen strange effects in the tabs when you opened a new tab in background mode? At last, I've found a way to solve this annoying bug! :) I've implemented it in the next upcoming release of Plastikfox. It will be out in a few days. First I have to test it to be sure it always works perfectly. I think so, but I must be sure. ;)

Also, I'm going to try the same procedure to fix another bug: when you start Firefox sometimes the statusbar doesn't have the right height. When you click a menu or load a page, the statusbar gets the right height. It should be the right one all the time, but maybe I can use the same idea I've used in the other bug to fix this one. :)

I absolutely love this theme! I couldn;t bwose without it ;-)

There's one minor thing, though: the little "Download Completed"-window looks really bad. It uses the Times New Roman font, it's white and it's just totally out of line with the rest of the theme.

Here's a screenshot:
http://www.vd-bout.demon.nl/fudlwindow.png

Surely that's not by design...? But other than that, I'm totally in love with this theme. Awesome job man!
