HOW TO INSTALL "GNOMENU"
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
For Lucid
Open a terminal and type or copy and past:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnomenu-team/ppa && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnomenu
sorry the ppa is not avalible for maverick at this time, so do this for maverick!
Installation on Ubuntu MAVERICK.
copy and past these instructions to your text editor and save for future reference.
Save the GnoMenu file to downloads
Once it's downloaded, right-click the file and choose 'Extract Here' Or drag and drop to the open "Downloads" folder
Next you need to make sure the correct dependencies are all installed, so open a terminal (Applications >> Accessories >> Terminal) and type or copy and past: :
sudo apt-get install python python-xdg python-cairo python-gconf python-xlib deskbar-applet
Next, in the terminal you need to change in to the directory you extracted earlier. Type or copy and past:
cd ~/Downloads/gnomenu
now type or copy and past:
sudo make install
This will install GnoMenu, it comes with some themes installed by default. Once this is done, you'll be able to right-click on your panel and select 'Add to panel'. Select GnoMenu from the list, it'll add an icon to the panel, right-click the icon and choose 'Preferences'. From there you'll be able to install the menu themes you've downloaded and download others from the Internet.

If you don't know what a terminal is, I would google it (linux terminal) and learn the basics first.

Just text on a white BG...active lines are similar except the text is red. What eff does GTK color selection have on the menu because the red comes from a GTK color scheme I setup using the new gcolor utility. Use GTK theme colors is UNCHECKED in the preferences. Those are the only problems I having so far.

sudo make uninstall
Much better than deleting the usr/share/gnomenu as root. Safer too.
