I downloaded the Jul-5 version and the gtk.css has only this line: @import url("resource:///org/gnome/evolve/gtk-main.css");
How can I get all the .css files to modify?
Thanks.

Ahh Hey now!

It may be the Icons in the screen-shot "Elementary" you are seeing but those are somewhat mac like but not mac.

This theme uses some Grey like mac os. but if you look at the elements a lot of them are very much different. and unique. (I in my humble opinion)

May be some elements resemble Mac OS (I guess the menu you say) in Evolve, but most of it is original. I've spent days and nights to make it look good with different apps and desktop environments. Perhaps you don't have respect for the hard work we do to make some good themes and love trolling around like this. If you cannot encourage someone, then at least don't discourage them. If you don't want to use it then please don't. There are many other themes out there for you to use. Please leave it as it is.

This theme looks good, but still looks too macish. I am just saying that there are too many macish themes, and i got sick of that. Sorry.
In the other hand, i love your Orion theme. It looks and works great on KDE (using the alternative rosa qgtk style for qt). I just need a spring break from the oxygen theme too .

So, basically all gray themes = mac theme?!?!?!?!?!

This it not even close the mac theme, and i have one, but its okay.
Keep the good work man, you themes (gnome-shell and gtk) are one of the best out here.

Yes. But I would appreciate constructive critics like what is wrong and what needs to change.

Well, changing this much will turn Evolve into a complete different theme.

Evolve is my first GTK3 theme. I initially made it by modifying Adwaita in GTK3.2 times. So in initial versions, the gradient in toolbar was there like it is in Adwaita. It was much stronger gradient, I mean more light towards the bottom. The sidebar was also very light.

When GTK3.4 came out, I worked hard to port the theme. Because a lot changed between the GTK3.2 and GTK3.4 versions of Adwaita (in code) of course. I had to re-base it on Orion and remove the Unico engine dependency. Then I had to re-emulate the look of old Evolve. You cannot just change the whole look between versions.

But in this GTK3.4 version, I decided to make the toolbar gradient less strong. The toolbar here is troughlike and not raised as in Mac OS X. But if I make it raised and made the gradient light -dark rather than dark - light, it will resemble Mac OS X even more, and much more.

And raised toolbars, though will look good in other apps, nautilus will look very ugly.

I made the sidebar less lighter, because more lighter sidebar will look totally out of place. The sidebar color now matches the middle of the toolbar gradient, which will better match than the bottom-most color, which was in GTK3.2 version.

What is wrong:
* Is yet another mac os X like theme
* I think there are some inconsistencies in the ambient light between the toobar, the search bar and the left panel. It feels like if the light comes from the top for the titlebar and from the bottom for the searchbar. You kind of solved that by making the menubar lighter. But the home button feels odd because the light comes from the top and yet is situated in the search bar

Besides, placing text or icons in a shading region like the search bar is awful, because destroys any kind of depth perception . This makes it feels fake

The left panel doesn't have any gradient at all, which would be fine if the panel is made from some different 'material' or color from the rest, or the exact same color that the bottom color of the search gradient which would give more consistency .

Is there a darker version of this?

Do you know how to much the buttons in the nautilus directory path breadcrumb (where the Home, Search buttons reside) shorter? There are a lot of empty spaces on the top and at the bottom.

You can also change the color in the settings.ini file to have desired color.

Thanks! There is no separate dark-version yet, but you can use the gtk-dark.css file instead of the gtk.css file.

The nautilus pathbar is a toolbar widget. You can customize the toolbar widget in the theme.

Thanks for improving GTK2 support!

At least in the latest version, the scrollbar arrow buttons are coloured inversely (foreground) in GTK3. I simply changed the color attribute in .scrollbar.button and .scrollbar.button:insensitive, which corrected it. The fix is trivial, so you could consider releasing another update with the fix.

Absolutely incredibly beautiful! If you could just make the checkboxes and radio buttons of GTK2 similar to the GTK3 ones (the colours are inverted), it would complete the experience. Please do keep up this great work!

Very nice theme. I'm using KDE at the moment, but I think I'll switch to GNOME for a while to try this theme. I was also wondering what font and font settings do you use in those screenshots?

I use nautilus with its display preferences set to show "size" at the first level. In this way I get an extra line underneath folders and files showing how many items the folder contains or what the size of the file is.

Most themes don't use a different color for this extra line, but the Evolve theme very nicely displays it in grey color underneath the usual black folder/file name.

However, I would appreciate very much if I could further tweak this color (if only I knew which entry or entries in which file(s) I should modify)

In the gtk-widgets.css file, search for .dim-label

You can change the color there!
