all commentary on religion aside, scripted fonts look horrible in graphics. they're hard to read and they're no less static than a print-type font.

Very cool, Tim. I thought we had lost you, but thank God, we haven't. I don't have much time, but I just wanted to tell you that this wallpaper looks absolutely wonderful. And boy, it is refreashing to see how many people support you now. Keep it up, and God bless.

In Christ,
John

As I said previously, your work has really improved a lot but if I like the colours and fonts of this wppr and the idea of the hands, I'm not too convinced about the texture of these yet I think you can surely improve that.

As about the now traditionnal controversy, well, I think that we can all keep our personnal opinions for ourselves.
After having myself participated in the arguments, I realised that we were ALL just making fools of ourselves and that despîte everything TIM prooved himself wiser than most of us by keeping out of the arguments and if I still have the same opinions about religion, well I've come to respect this and his perseverance.

Be encourged, Tim. This is one of your best yet. I have been admiring your work for sometime. Especially in Ministering the Gospel. There are more people then you think that appreciate both your art work as well as the messages. I just recently signed up for an account with Kde-look myself. The Linux community needs to hear this message over and over, since they seem to oppose God ..... I can only assume that they are spiritualy dead, have set up a technology Idol and are in need of the saving life of Jesus Christ.

A Brother in Christ.

You sound like a troll, so I'll try not to bite too hard:

It's not just a religious thing, being spiritually dead, nor anything even remotely about that. I know several people (male and female) who are devout Christians and who use Linux on a daily basis. One, he is a minister in GA, for goodness sake, so it's a *bit* of a stretch to say that the Linux community has no room for religion or opposed God.

However, I think the "opposition" that you see is probably the reaction one might expect from a group of people who are so devoted to choice and freedom. We dislike being preached to, talked down to, told what is and what isn't, and quite frankly, on the whole, our Linux community are well versed, intelligent folk who simply do not like overly preachy people. I've shown my Christian friends some of Tim's work and they are even a little shocked that he would even care to do this, in a forum where most of his work is clearly about sending a message through bad graphics. (That said, this wall is much better, Tim.)

I think religion is great, and most people have that need to fill a void in themselves -- but if you think a community built upon openess, respect for each other and our multitude of cultures appreciate one view being preached and the system abused to keep a certain message "up" longer, you're being rather naive and silly. (This one has been updated? What changed? I see no noticable difference.)

I once played D&D with a Catholic priest (it was pretty surreal, but that is another story) who before and after our games, would always engage us in some deep topics and discussions. One thing he always touched upon, however, is respect. He said he saw too many people forget about that in their zealousness in their faith. His point resonates in all things, not just spreading one's faith. I think, in the end, what most of the people who complain about Tims's (at one time) constant postings was it was disrespectful of the system.

I have no problem ignoring his stuff if I so choose to do so. (I normally look anyways, he's gotten much better creatively) However, I surely hope not to see an abuse of the kde-look system to keep stuff on the front page as long as possible. It's immature and riles people more than bad graphics ever will.

...that the only person really supporting tim is alethia, and the only person really supporting alethia is tim?

I'll give that you are getting better (this doesn't scream "Amateur!" anymore) but why can't you realize that this community (in general! the majority! ) doesn't want to be preached to? If we did, or didn't really mind it, your art wouldn't start such flames!

Not really that odd, actually. I'm a supporter of Tim also, I just haven't been on this site too much as of late. And aside from me, it appears that a lot of people think Tim's work is good. Look at the ratings and look at the postings.

IF the majority doesn't want to be preached to, THEN the majority shouldn't bother with it. Why does THE MAJORITY that doesn't want to be preached to keep coming back?? It's obviously not because they don't know who it is, because after a couple of postings people tend to know the style of certain submitters. If I see something submitted by someone I recognize but don't appreciate, I move on with nary a comment. But such isn't the case here, especially by the "usual suspects" that gripe about it.
As of late, I have come to admire and appreciate the improvement in Tim's artistic abilities, but I have always come to appreciate the message that he brings with it. HE and Alethia and many others submit stuff that a good number of those in the KDE community are looking for. As much as I love the Aqua-ish wallpapers that have been posted, they've become very "me-too" without much substance. Tim's (and other's) submissions have the substance that for a good number of us means something far more than just a pretty wallpaper. Far worse would be to ban his and other's submissions and miss out on someone being touched by a wonderful message, whether they believed in it initially or not. You don't want it, don't look for it. Plain and simple.

Isn't it odd that despite no one "really" supporting tim or alethia that their artwork gets downloaded? And isn't it odd that despite the "majority" of people disliking religion and religous artwork that tim's work doesn't imediately drop below 20% in rating?

Report

I would not rely on download statistics. Previews are often too small to allow judgement on the picture, so people may just download the picture although they afterwards decide they don't like it,

Report

PreacherDave

Ok. Fair enough, even though I personally find his previews to be more than adequate in size. I've even downloaded some of them. Not all of them, as they're not all my personal taste. But some of them are. In fact, I'm currently using Tim's "Earthsphere" wallpaper. But I will say that the ratings are probably more accurate. And the fact that tim doesn't drop below the 20% deletion right as soon as he posts them counts for something in my mind.

Just because some of us don't like to go rushing headlong into a conflict doesn't mean we don't support one side.

as i see no relevance to kde or any kind of data- or computing- connection, let me answer in an other quotation:

"... 'Walk away,' said the voice of the God in his head. 'You don't need trouble'. ..."
(Small Gods, page 96)

// but i agree: you are geeting better

// what i suggest to you: what about opening another platform for stuff like this, where you can have an own collection? then it will be on subject and related stuff --- for you

Tim has as much right to post his art as you do. Deal with it! He isn't going away, so if you don't like his art; shut up and vote it down!

Is propaganda allowed on this website ?

Report

alethia

Propaganda- (noun)
1. information that is spread for the purpose of promoting some cause.
2. Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a cause

So to answer your question yes! This is created in GIMP. Hense promotion of open source. If you don't like the art than tough; shut up, vote it down and move on. Is that to hard for you? This is relavant since tim uses KDE on Linux. I think this is quite good. Not many free-hand wallpapers.

That's a totally vague and unhelpful definition. Try this one from the OED:

Propaganda:

The systematic propagation of information or ideas by an interested party, esp. in a tendentious way in order to encourage or instil a particular attitude or response. Also, the ideas, doctrines, etc., disseminated thus; the vehicle of such propagation.

That's what's irking us. It's an organized attempt to change our viewpoints.
