the socialism Marx talked about has nothing
at all to do with what the soviet union and cuba twisted it into. that just replaced oppression with oppression. One could say that there has never been a real example of socialism or communism on this planet to date in witch to compare. Marx was about ending the economic domination witch has reared it's ugly head once more to oppress all but few well-offs. The freedom we talk so highly about in this country is not accessible to those who can't afford it.Take a look at our justice system for example. Got money, get lawyer/ No money go to jail. What originally inspired Marx was when he went to Manchester UK an saw 9yr old kids dying in coal mines and factories because there parents (good capitalists) couldn't afford to feed them most of the time. The robber barrons of that time have returned in full glory in the past decade. As in the past, there greed will stop at nothing until the have everything there piggish hands can stuff into there already full pockets.
And what most "so-called" Americans don't want to accept is that it is the very socialism the say they despise that has been built there highways, educated there children and them selves, privided healthcare to elderly people, delivered there mail, and other wise raised there wages to the point to where they have a chance to better them selves. Anyway thanx for the wallpaper.

In order to response the acusations, I have to say that I have nothing to do with Stalin, in fact, I think that he and he's people had a very wrong interpretation of what socialsm is (and, in general, every east european "real socialism" experiences had).
Sadly, I think that many writers that condemned the comunism icon DOES NOT HAVE A SINGLE IDEA of what they talking about, but they just playing the record that somebody put in their heads. ¿Does anyone in US read "The Capital" of Marx in highschool? He's arguments were magnifiscents and he did a great contribution to philosofic and economic theory (but he dint say a word about real socialism) and that is a fact, no mather what can anyone can say. So, dear US dudes, please read before you put acusations on anyone.
If I should have to make an apologyze, come to my mind disasters like the goverments of Slovakia or other easter ex russian dependent goverments did, encouraging opression and limiting civil rights without any social compensation. They were in general evil and they didnt understood a word of what Marx said. So, I can understand that that people be angry with me or be affected by this upload in someway.
Supporting some comment exposed previously, I think that Bush is the greatest fucker in this world, and I think that he is much more similar to Hitler than other powerful and questionable persons in the present or in the past.
Finally, (I have to go back to work) I must say that this upload was more in direction of an ironic "jocking spirit" upload than an direct ideological one. The revolution of what linux represents is a very interesting movement, but have nothing to do with socialism conceptually speaking.
It might be goodlooking in a screen of someone that had read Marx deeply and use a Linux system, why not? jajaja (remember: ironic joking spirit :P)
Nobody is pointing a gun on you and saying "you have to be socialist". Chill out men. ...and download if you like it.

ps. some jurks have to make a demmand to their educational systems. ja.
JA.

Communism is a political direction. Fascism is a crime. The fact that Stalin, Honnecker, Ceaucescu used communism as an alibi for saving their dictatorship is another thing. Communism for itself and as a political and democratical direction is nothing wrong. Nobody has banned US-flags (much worse: the confederations-flag)and a lot of Indians, Afro-Americans (communists in 50's & 60's, too) and other people without european-roots were choked or killed by that "good" people.

And the most funniest thing: China? Communism? Must be a joke, they are following a turbo-capitalism mixed with a dictatorship. Got nothing to do with communism. MArx' communism is for people - not for elite. Maybe the countries of your example call themselves communistic but if there are rich and poor people it isn't like that. Then it's just a dictatorship, a cheat. GDR called itself "democratic" (what wasn't true, just like china isn't communistic. It's a cheat): Is democracy bad, too, only because they called their country democratic?
Let's make a deal: You will read Marx' Capital or the communstic manifest and I will read a book of an anti-communist of your choice. Then we can discuss once again. And, please, don't make fascism same as any other thing. The nazis were singular bad. 6 Million jews, millions of german communists and socialdemocrats, gays, gypsies - they all died in the camps. 55 Million dead people - that isn't toppable and the worst thing ever exists.

That said, consider also that I'm a left wing guy that just can't stand no more hearing left wing people saying how good communism is and saying the same things said 60 years ago by someone else and never thinking with their own minds about something new.

it's our past so there is no way to change it or make it undone.
just remember 40th years of your country's history and especially Mussolini. and would it be pleasant to you if everybody notice you about you?

I just think that totalitarian political systems like fascism or communism can bring out the worst in any people.
Also, I don't think that this wallpaper has much to do with history. The 'viva la revolucion' tagline & the hammer & sickle coupled with a linux logo seem to be looking toward the future rather than the past.
But hey, this site is supposed to be about artwork, not politics.
By the way, I like backround image you uploaded.

But I note with a certain amount of pride that the nazi wallpaper is being voted downward into oblivion just like this one is. I'm glad to see these symbols of oppressive totalitarian regimes treated with the contempt that they deserve.
As an aside, I think that censorship is the wrong approach. I think that the solution to speech that we don't like is more free speech. We can shout them down.
