Looks like you already figured this out by the different colors but I thought I'd add a tip if you didn't know :)
I've changed colors on similar images very easily, although I'm not sure how well this would work on multi-layer images. Just open up the image in Gimp and go into the Layer/colors menu and mess with either Hue-Saturation or colorize. Adjusting the sliders will let you easily change colors on an image.

Nice swirl btw :)

Very nice. I've always loved spiral effects, and this isn't an exception.

Hmm, one way you might go about making it blue could be to go colour-to-alpha filter to change the red to alpha. Then you could put in a new layer behind it filled with blue. I'm not sure how well that would work, but it's worth an experiment.

Umm... in english?
Remember, newb here. :P
The pics were basically made with experimenting randomly. I know only a few of the GIMP's functions and features.

Erm, how about this then? Go to Filters » Colours » Colour to Alpha Change the return color to a red like that in the image. After the filter runs those areas should be transparent. Now go to Layer » New Layer Have it set to the background color. Fill the now blank area with blue with a bucket fill. Now go to Layer » Stack » Layer to Bottom to move the blue under the original image Might not be perfect, but experiment with the shade of red in the filter and blue in the fill... might work.
