A hopefully good looking theme for GDM Greeter. Suitable for any resolution from 640x480 to 1600x1200. Should also be useable with widescreen displays.
The first picture shows the new version 0.9.2, the second is the older version 0.5. Plz tell me if you dont like the new version and of course why you dont like it :P
The background image is from Franziska Frannerts and you can download it from this location: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/stOrmgreen?content=35826
The third picture is from the experimental Avio-Sunshine-GDM, that features a lens flare effect. You should use at least a resolution of 1024x768 or it won't look good. I marked it as experimental, but it should be very usable, since it depends on the 0.9.2 version of the default theme.
Howto install it under Gnome (Ubuntu):
1. Download this theme (currently 0.9)
2. Open the "gdmsetup", also called "Login Window Preferences"
3. Open the tab "Local"
4. Use the "Add" Button and select the downloaded file.
5. Make sure you select the "Avio-GDM" in the List.
6. Close dialog and logout to see it.
Howto change the background image
1. Download the current version of this theme (0.9.2).
2. Extract it with the compression tool of your choice.
3. Navigate into the extracted folder and replace the "background.jpg" with the image of your choice.
4. Put it into a ".tar.gz" Archive again and you should have a theme with your own background. (plz don't change the directory structure)

Unfortunately the Avio-Theme is a GDM2-Theme, which means it's incompatible to GDM3 used by Ubuntu. Bad luck :-(
This simply is the wrong place to ask for that. But I'm quite sure, if You ask this question at an Ubuntu-forum You'll get Your answear. I wish You good luck! :-)

I have this amazing login screen... Then I go to my mediocre, default Ubuntu theme...
I seriously can't find anything better than that, which is kinda sad.

#!/bin/bash
export XNESTSIZE=1024x768
gdmthemetester console Avio-Side-GDM
Note: Avio-Side-GDM is the name of the folder in wich the theme files are installed. "console" is the mode in which the theme is startet in. The manpage may be helpfull for other modes.
then you can simple start the theme inside your desktop and take a simple screenshot.

PS: Maybe you should use your normal user. "guest" is a little suspicious...
