Description:

I got a little bored with my themes, so I decided to make use of some experiments I still had floating around and try to turn it into a complete theme. Be warned, it's a bit of a mess and not quite finished, but I guess it's usable.

Aside from the mirage engine (which is not a complete engine, but only provides certain elements), you will also need ubuntulooks and murrine to use the included themes. I'll likely drop the murrine dependency at some point but ubuntulooks will stay, since I see no point in duplicating half of the code. With more and more cairo engines coming out, I believe this kind of code sharing makes a lot of sense.

Make sure to check bvc's metacity theme and modifications: http://www.kernow-webhosting.com/~bvc/theme/mcity/Mirage2.tar.gz

Excellent, specially the gradient on the background.

Is there a way to change the color of the scrollbar?

My taste is bit different (Assume this is technically possible). I like to have the same color as buttons to the scroll bar including the prelight effect with same prelight color.

Not yet, but it will be in the next release. Just out of curiousity (since everybody seems to be requesting this), what color would you all want to change the scrollbar to?

following the trend with that style colored slider, I'd say either what the menubar (bg[SELECTED]) is, or the titlebar color.

It depends on the colors I'm using in my theme, but I want a blue or almost white.

Hi.. This is a workaround for Firefox issue. Publishing this as a part of description might help users.

If someone could hack this for OpenOffice/Thunderbird etc great.

Cool Theme. But my firefox doesn't like your menu styles. i get stupid errors :(

Same applies for other XUL applications like thunderbird.

Any possibility of making push buttons same as the "Library" button of the media player in this screenshot ( http://img236.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vista1sw5.png )

Hm, I don't like that very much and I don't think it would look good on a light background. But I am thinking about adding a new button style, just need something really nice. Too fancy button styles rarely look good in Gtk themes, since they appear a _lot_ on the screen (and there is no separation between "pushbuttons" and normal buttons as on OS X).

I agree... specially if we take nautilus file manager, which uses toggle buttons in pathbar...(This should be replaced by a nice widget, just my opinion.. :-) )..

BTW: Any idea how to change the color of the scroll bar....

Thanks...

It looks very good but it breaks the menubar in Firefox :(

Report

bvc

actually, it's firefox that has a broken menubar, because it is not a gtk app. ....and it was already mentioned above.

I haven't seen a theme this good in a while. Keep at it... it's beautiful.

The theme performance is a little slow, but this looks fantastic! I hope you continue working on it :)

Thanks. Yes the fullscale gradient in the background obviously slows things down a bit while resizing, but I believe it is quite acceptable compared to themes who tried the same with pixmaps before. Not a theme for low resources though. :)

how about having the bg gradient in the menu?

Report

What do you mean?

Report

bvc

just that...
the 'full scale' gradient applied to the menu bg so that the menu is gradient.

Oh you mean the normal menus, I was thinking about the menubar now. Yes, that could be tried. Currently I use murrine for the menus since I haven't even implemented those yet.

I think it would be very slick to have that menubar gradient stretch over metacity titlebar AND menubar.

The problem is that you can't know whether a window has a menubar or not, so how do you design the window decoration to look good in any case? I think it might also be a little overkill. Of course everyone should feel free to experiment.

Report

bvc

I'm beginning to wonder about the overkill factor. It does take away from the menubar to have the efect in the titlebar.

Yeah, but it does look nice. I actually think that unfocused windows look best right now. For compiz I was envisoning a light color for both focused and unfocused windows, mainly using transparency to indicate the unfocused windows.

If you have any other ideas, please try them.

Of course it would be awesome if I could disable the menubar glow for unfocused windows, but AFAIK there is no way to do that.

I've tinkered a little and...
