I like the clean look presented in your screenshots. I assume there's more to your configuration than just what's in them. Could you provide some detail on your webpage?

What wallpaper are you using?

KDE's aim is to be an easy to use desktop for the KDE/Linux beginner. 90% of KDE/Linux Beginners formerly used MS Windows. Therefore the initial default settings of the desktop should be MS-Windows-like. Wheater we like it or not, but this is a fact. To convince beginners to use KDE it first must provide a familiar working environment.

However you're example could be part of a default set up for people coming from OS X to the KDE world.

Agree, but how is this better?

KMenu button should stay on one of the screen corners because a)this corners are the easiest places to point to on your screen. Keeping the b) Kmenu on the sides of the screen in less intrusive.

Where is the pager?

It looks good, but I couldn't live without the taskbar (or whatever it is called).

I agree, I need the taskbar and pager too much.

The taskbar is important if you are not using features that kde has that windows doesn't. Such as the shade window. I suppose part of this came from OSX in liking the fact that their is not a taskbar but one thing they did wrong was do away with the shade window feature. As for my self I prefer the windows list in combination with the shade feature and not maximizing windows that don't need it a better way to work. The taskbar seems to get cluttered easily and then becomes somewhat useless.

I agree that the taskbar/pager combo are far superior to the shading option - shading smacks of difference for the sakeof it, not usability

I think there is a lot of work to do at the menus, especially the K-Menu.
When I set up desktop pcs for friends and family, I always got it managed to reduce the menu entries in the hierarchy top to 4-5 points.
e.g.

System
--- Settings
--- Administration
--- etc.

Office
--- Management
------ Addressbook
------ Databases
------ etc.
--- Office-Suites
------ KOffice
------ OpenOffice.org

Entertainment
--- Multimedia
--- Games
--- etc.

Internet
--- WWW
--- etc.

Maybe you could do something there. Otherwise: Good Job!!

Greetings

Elias P.

That is a good idea cause the default one is ok but it could be better.

I will look into that with a second release for kde 3.2.3 when i get more feedback.
