Okular 7zip support - Idea
Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
7zip support would be useful in Okular. It doesn't seem to make sense that the proprietary RAR format is supported but the FOS 7zip is not unless the justification is that the RAR format is more widely used.
(It would be nice if it could also support the 7z format with the CB7 extension as well.)

But if it supports RAR it should support tar and 7z and they're used to distribute large files too.

I see there is a big confusion here.
There is a specification for digital comic books.
The format is simple, it's just a zip or rar file renamed ad cbz or cbr with all images of the comic.
Okular can read them without trouble but there are some "new formats" that it can't read.
If you can compress some images an read them in Okular why can't we use any compressed format like 7zip.
In fact there are some books with cbz extension.
So, this may be a feature request and not an idea, but it's not a bug.

As far as I know 7zip isn't in use for this so far?
(I don't have another explanation - but this one should fit at least.)

Anyways, this is not an idea that belongs to KDE-Apps.org - it's a plain feature request that would be better off on bugs.kde.org where the developer(s?) can find and track it more efficiently.
Please don't use KDE-Apps.org as a feature request system, because it's not supposed to be one.

Debian gz'd docs for postscript and pdf. It would be nice to have those extract temporarily, on the fly, with 7z.
