Description:

This version is a complete rewrite of Metabar and it is now based on khtml. This makes theming quite simple. You just have to edit the default.css file in $KDEDIR/share/apps/metabar/html. But do NOT touch the layout.html file in any case. This might break Metabar. An option for choosing themes (like in amarok) will come in the next version.

When I launch Konqueror from the command line, then manually select my "filemanagement" view profile, it works perfectly & without any error output.

However, when I use the Suse-installed "home" icon to launch konqueror using,
"kfmclient openProfile filemanagement", the MetaBar tab won't open.

I have reseted my sidebar to system defaults
and I see the two new icon's ( metabar and metabar install )

Same problem here. Suse 8.2, KDE 3.3.2.

I forgot to mention - metabar is simply great. I like it very much. There is a bug I mentioned before: the "make install" installs metabar_add.desktop to $KDEDIR/share/apps/konqsidebartng/entries/, but should to $KDEDIR/share/apps/konqsidebartng/add/
(at least for kde 3.4 beta 2).

There is another bug - the preview of audio files does not work. It may be because I disabled aRts.

The only suggestion I have is to make it a little slicker (it takes about 1/4 width of the screen at 1152x864). An option to choose fonts would also be very welcome.

BTW, it is much better than the sidebar in winslows XP

It is no bug that you can't play audio as the preview uses arts to play it.

And I don't know how to get the metabar_add.desktop file installed to the add directory and not to entries :)
So anyone can give me some hints?

Also please add support for access control list. Other than that, simply Cool

My comment got truncated.
2) please add special support for the new KDE3.4 media:/ slave (and old devices:/ one) to put special and not "normal" actions in the sidebar. For example "mount device", "safely remove device", "play audio CD" and so on. Anyway, excellent work!

I thought of self configurable actions which are a list of actions provided by konquerer. So access to the media:/ ioslave and the actions you mentioned should be able.
But I first have to figure out how to get the actions from konqueror or even kde

Metabar 0.4 is absolutely fantastic!! Great work!!
I have only 1 bug report and 1 feature request

1) if metabar is the default sidebar, it doesn't recognize and show the first directory opened in konqueror. For example, clicking on the "home" button it shows an empty sidebar, you have to choose a directory and the deselect it to get the "home" folder showed in metabar. It's a pity cause it makes it seem as not working at a first sight

2) please add special support and care for the new media:/ slave devices (and old

I don't exactly know what you mean...
I can't reproduce the bug you are talking about, or at least we are talking above different things... :)
So please give some more detailed information

I'm on MDK 10.0 and I've got :

g++: cannot specify -o with -c or -S and multiple compilations

Is this supposed to compile on MDK 10.0??

Maybe the compiler is a bit outdated, what does gcc -v report?

I installed the metabar plugin and all went well. The metabar plugin shows up in the plugins list - however, when I click on the icon, it freezes for a sec and then nothing. The metabar does not expand to fill the plugin area. Anyone have any ideas. I tried the attribute swap suggested in a post before but that did not work either. I am running Suse 9.2 with kde 3.4 b2.

Using Fedora Core3 during compile I get the following error:

metabar.cpp:39: error: visibility arg must be one of "default", "hidden", "protected" or "internal"

Installed versions of KDE & QT are:
qt-3.3.3-8
kde 3.3.1

This is caused by some version collision between KDE and gcc, I think. Here's a workaround that works for me:

edit metabar/src/metabar.cpp

Just below the #include lines, add:

#define METABAR_EXPORT __attribute__ ((visibility("default")))

Change the instance of "KDE_EXPORT" on line 39 or 40 to "METABAR_EXPORT"

Hi,

very nice improvement. Is anyone able to write an ebuild for this app? Would be great - I tried to write one but failed. :(

Ok, I managed to get it working. The "make install" installs metabar_add.desktop to $KDEDIR/share/apps/konqsidebartng/entries, but should to $KDEDIR/share/apps/konqsidebartng/add

The ebuild is on the way (I just need find a way to copy that metabar_add.desktop file).

Report

Well, I could write an ebuild - if I could get metabar to work. It installed cleanly, but doesn't show up in konqueror.
