Metabar

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements

Description:

This version is a complete rewrite of Metabar and it is now based on khtml. This makes theming quite simple. You just have to edit the default.css file in $KDEDIR/share/apps/metabar/html. But do NOT touch the layout.html file in any case. This might break Metabar. An option for choosing themes (like in amarok) will come in the next version.

All in all the new version works great here. I'm glad to see the scrollbar is working correctly now.
One suggestion. Maybe making this themable would be a nice touch. I personally don't have any issues with how it looks. But, I do think giving a way to change the look would be a nice touch. If anything else, the ability to either change or add a background image would be cool.

Hi, when I run konqueror from kicker or Desktop then Metabar does not work. But if I run from terminal just typing "konqueror" it works very nice. A like it, but this is a bug so ...? I do not want work with it using terminal toooo :>

sorry for my bad english.

if Metabar doesn't initially start from the icon shortcut, just open Konqueror as usual and on the sidebar just either go to the options and add the Metabar or just roll back to defaults and it will be added. After this, go to Konqueror's options and just resave the profile. All should work after that.

When you run konqueror from a terminal, it loads the profile called "Web browsing", but when you click the "Home" icon, it loads "File management". Some profiles might have sidebar turned on and off. Press F9 to see the sidebar.

if you're gonna change the look away from using the theme the user has selected, please leave an option to use the old look as well!

I think it looked clean and nice before, now I don't even feel like using it, it won't fit in my desktop anymore :/

What version of KDE are you developing this in? I having trouble getting this to work correctly.

Hmmmm... It looks nice, but why can't we disable the animation effect? I don't like it at all (as it gives no functionality). IMO such an option would be nice (In Winslows, you can disable animations if I am not mistaken - haven't used it for a long time).

Another question: where did you get that green arrowdown icon? It's not in the source tarball (and there is no such icon in the Cezanne iconset - the iconset I use). COuld you please include it (or better, replace it with something not-so-XPish).

Other than that, great work!

I personally don't like the new GUI changes; really quite liked it before. Great sidebar, anyhow; I guess I can just keep the old version. :)

It compiles just fine, but when I click Add New and then selects Metabar, it appears for just a second or so and then dissapears.
If I click on the metabar icon, the samen happens.
But if I start konqueror from the konsole, there are no problems at all.
I have compiled and installed it on SuSE 9.2 running KDE 3.4 if that is of any help.
Thanks in advance to all that might have some clue to why. And thanks for the effort on making metabar. Really nice looking!

Hi.
Go to src/metabar_widget.cpp and go to line 766. Delete the word KService. It should then compile. I'm not sure if it will cripple it though.

When I run ./configure it says:

checking if g++ supports -c -o file.o... yes

Then when I do make is says:

g++: cannot specify -o with -c or -S and multiple compilations
make[2]: *** [metabar.lo] Error 1

It would be nice if you could give me some kind of pointer to fix this so I could build a package for my users.

This isn't a solution. Though it was very cool of you to come up with a patch, this patch doesn't work the same as when you call kfmclient to open a profile.

The author needs to figure out why this is happening and fix and release a new version.
