I was fooling around in Blender and Yafray and suddenly came up with this idea for another Gentoo Linux wallpaper. It was also meant as a test to see if I could replicate the photorealism from Yafray with using only Blender Internal.
As it turns out, for this particular scene, the biggest difference between yafray and blender apart from memory usage and rendertimes is color bleeding. The self illuminated parts glow onto the floor, thanks to radiosity and bounced lighting.
Still, I prefer the blender render, since you can get the shadows smoother in a shorter render time.
This was originally rendered as a dual desktop image at a resolution of 3200x1200, the render time was about 4 hours, using only one Area light set to 16x. No AO was used and OSA was set to 16.

Added a plain Widescreen version without the Gentoo "G". Resolution is 1920x1200.
Blend file available now.
Link is working again.

My site is currently offline as in, the actual webpage is not up but instead a joomla framework, but the images are still hosted there and should be available.
Maybe you were unlucky and tried to access them while my Provider had a power outtage.
Please post here if the images are still unavailable.

My bank account was kinda low when the provider tried to deduct their fees for hosting, so the site was offline for a while and therefore some of the links didnt work.
Anyways, everything is back to normal again. :-)

I figure, if Im gonna re-render it, I might as well make it big enough so that all widescreen folks can scale it down to fit.
