Description:

Smooth Blend - a smooth blending of the window background color into the titlebar.

This is my first attempt at a KDE window decoration.
Any comments would be much appreciated and can be posted here or sent to my email.

NOTICE:
For anyone installing over the beta or 1.0 that used the rpm, be sure to remove the old one first:

rpm -e smoothblend-beta2
-or-
rpm -e smoothblend-1.0

If you get errors about an unknown signature when installing the new rpm, the rpm is signed by Scott Grayban and you should follow the directions on his rpm site to add his key http://rpm.borgnet.us/10.1/ or rpm -iUvh --nosignature smooth-blend-1.1-1bgn.i586.rpm.

If you have his key, the normal install is:
rpm -iUvh smooth-blend-1.1-1bgn.i586.rpm

For both the tarball or rpm version, you need to issue this command after you install:
kwin --replace &
or simply logout and back into kde.

Thanks to sgrayban for testing and hosting the file download.

I'm glad you like it!
I've obtained kde cvs access, and am trying to get it into kdeplayground by the middle of next week.
That way the kde devs can play around with it and comment on it.

That would be nice, but I don't think I have enough support nor experience to push Plastik from being the default in KDE.
I really just want to get some feedback, make some changes learning how the other devs work, and try to push to get it listed with the others that are selectable.
That would be more than cool, but we'll see what happens.

There were some problems initially, but it should all be working now.
Btw, are you going to turn your IcwWM decoration into a kwin decoration?

Same here. I get "Anti Leach System has caught a hot link". How about a direct link?

Sorry but I did find the leech error and its now fixed.

Downloading should be working for the source now.

also, when you press a button on your window deco, the button does nothing. It should probably show the "pressed" effect, by reversing the gradient and moving the button slightly, or something similar.

:)

The original did this, but since putting the animations in, it was inadvertently taken out. It will be back in beta3.

One, put a version number in your package. Without one, gentoo ebuilds need to be hacked, as they require a version number.

something like: smoothblend-0.1_beta2.tar.bz2 and it should expand to smoothblend-0.1_beta2 directory.

Thats kind of a 'un-said' standard. :)

Also your hosting site does not allow 'wget' to retrieve files.

$ wget http://www.borgnet.us/smoothblend-beta2.tar.bz2

Gets 404 File Not Found

$ wget --user-agent="firefox" http://www.borgnet.us/smoothblend-beta2.tar.bz2

It works.

:)

Nice work. also.

Yes I had some issues with another un-related problem and had to change apache user-agent allow.

If a window comes up maximized to start, the restore/max button should show the restore icon but it shows the max icon even though the window is already maxmized.

This is related to the other problem mentioned with the double click maximizing and showing the wrong button. It will be fixed in beta3.
Thanks for using it!

Hi, this decoration is great!!

But I think I found a little bug. I have KDE configured to maximize/restore the window when the user double clicks the title bar.
Well, with this decoration, the Maximize/Restore icon doesn't get updated when I double click in the toolbar to Maximize/Restore the window. It stays just before the action.

(KDE Control Center -> Window Behavior -> Actions -> Double click in title bar: Maximize).

Good find. I'll check this out and fix this for beta3. I normally use double click in the title bar to shade, so I dind't pick this up.

I had to kill kwin and restart it to get rid of the line under the windec, and to get the animations to work. I think others using my .deb will have the same problem. turning of text shadow etc DID work, by the way.

maybe there is a bug somewhere? maybe it only doesn't work when upgrading? (I had smoothblend beta1)

It's not really a problem. To get the new changes, you will either have to logout of kde or issue the command:
kwin --replace &

I agree with the comment above me, to have rounded bottom corners. and, also, I'd like to ask if you could try to make the always on top-button a bit different - try to make it more clear it is on or of. its very hard to see, now.
