transparent panel background
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
IMPORTANT: the background looks better if the panels don't have shadows. To do so you can tweak the window decoration settings of the compiz manager.

This is my first content on gnome-look. I did this myself and I liked it, so I'm sharing it with you.
It is a collection of backgrounds for the gnome panels. It is completely transparent but a line, a gradient line, that for now is white, or black.
The ideal height of the panel is 24 pixels.
You can ask for more colors (give me the html value), and I will do and publish them.
The idea came to me when I realized that completely transparent panels would render the strings almost unreadable, with a very dark/light wallpaper. Adding a line would have helped a lot, so I did this with gimp. You can see the result in the screenshots.

1.1 - added aqua, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, navy, olive, purple, red, silver, teal, and yellow - make the images 1px wide so they occupy very little space
1.0 - black and white lines

If you enable compiz you have a shadow by default. To disable it just do so:
- install the compizconfig-settings-manager package
- go to System->Preferences->CompizConfig Settings Manager
- in the search field (top-left corner) type "decoration"
- click on window decoration
- the last field contains the objets that have a shadow. click on the '+' button next to the field
- choose the window title type and click on 'get'
- then click on the panel you want not to have shadows
- check the invert checkbox
- choose the AND relation
- click on add
- repeat for every panel you want not to have shadows
Note that this method leaves the shadows to the menus.
