Description:

A Karamba Weather Theme,

note: in the time I wrote this, there wasn't any *good* weather karamba theme. Now, we are plenty of them.

I'd be glad if somebody uses it besides me!

This scripts collect info from http://www.weather.com

Please, follow directions in README to show the weather at your city.

Enjoy!!!
In short time, I'd realease a script in Spanish.

Please, check md5sum of the file

Hey,

Sorry for the late response.
You don't have the perl agent library, which is needed to run the script. (this library is very common). You should get these library, and install in one of the @INC listed directories. I'd include a little guide to do this in future release, but Internet is plenty of guides to install these perl libraries.
You need:

LWP/UserAgent.pm

How to install a perl module..
As root typ this:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell

The first time you do this you'll need to asnwer some questions, the default ones will do.

After that you'll get a prompt, just enter the following command:
cpan> install LWP::UserAgent

after that your module should be installed, good luck :-)

Is there a way to convert the measurements to metric in any way other than changing the code (I'm not familiar with perl) to make a mathematical conversion?

Thanks

...changing the name to something a little different, so as not to confuse people with another Karamba theme called "Karamba Weather"? See http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=5635 Thanks.

OK, I didn't found this when I searched!

Or actually, would you prefer to just combine efforts? I haven't looked at your scripts yet, but it would be nice to avoid the proliferation of scripts (witness the number of rdf scripts that could just be combined into one or two packages at the most, if the authors were only willing to cooperate.) Tell me what you think.

Open to cooperate, I enjoy programming, this is not a competition, but let's make something nice!

Right. Currently, I am distributing two different themes under "Karamba Weather" and would be happy to add yours to the mix. About the only thing that I can't do (at least in the current version of the script) is spell out the wind ("From the West Southwest" for example), but the script does have the capability to show not only the five day forecast, but also converts to metric (so you can have temperatures in C, as well as wind speed in kph and barometer in kilopascals) and allows for customization of the display, so people can choose whether they want the temperature listed as "high / low" or "low ~ high" or whatever. Are you artistic? I could really use some better wind icons; I included a set of them for people to create their own icons from, but I don't use them because they are too big and ugly. I am planning on releasing version 0.4 this weekend, with a bug fix and possibly another theme or two, but if you need more time, I can wait.

I enjoy doing this kind of things, my programm is GPL, so you don't need to ask to include my themes on your distribution. I want to finish some issues, then, maybe in the future, you can take control of all. Tonight, or tomorrow, I'm going to release 0.2 with improvments!

Great!, let´s discuss via email the details. I also think it would be better to have some kind of *standar* to let people choose only between graphic interface, also, to use other´s scripts, also, open the possibility to others to use scripts and make derivated works, etc, etc, ;) let´s cooperate. I´m going to write to you soon!

I don't think you understand. I don't want to "take control," but rather have greater cooperation together. For instance, your script uses weather.com, mine uses weather.interceptvector.com. That's fine, two locations are better than one, just in case one should ever go out. What I am suggesting is that we package the scripts together and make the necessary adjustments so that they both spit out identical output; that is, line 1 is the city name, line 2 is the time of the last update, etc. In other words, themes can use either script interchangeably, so that way when someone wants to create a new weather theme, they don't need to pick between the two scripts, because it will work with both. I have no desire to "take over" what is your own personal program (besides, I don't do Perl :) but rather am suggesting that we work together so that people don't have to choose between conflicting scripts, but only decide what server to download the forecast from. Tell me what you think.

I get the following message:

Failed to load a python module for weather

I only see the name of my city and the weather icon. Testing the script via bash looks good. I get all the information the script needs. Any ideas?

By the way I really like this theme ;-)

I need more info to help you.
I had a report very similar to yours, but it was because the person uncommented a commented line. Take care of this, compare with the original script.
Write again if you cannot solve the problem with this.

Thanks for your help. I had to adjust the path of the script in weather.theme. It works now!

I wonder why one would need information about weather conditions in his/her place? What we really need is a weather FORECAST. Could you implement it?

Report

You need it if you are like me. Stuck in a cube environment and want to know just how nice of a day it is outside while your slaving away on "stuff".

[My english is not as good as I would like! ;) ]

Actually, YES, in two or three days
you may have a theme that shows FORECAST for the week.

If you're looking for a script that has forecast ability, try the "real" Karamba Weather (apparently, the author of this one didn't realize the name was already taken.:)

Hey! I really wanted to do this!

Future themes will include:
* Spanish and Celcius theme
* French and Celcius theme
* Little theme, only with icon and
Temperature.
* Modification with some script to
make easier to pick up a city.

Describe me with detailed what you want, I really didn't catch you up! ;)

I get the background png to come up but it doesn't display anything. I changed the city code and ran getIcons. Any suggestions?

Report

angelrod

If I run the script from console, it gives me all the info for my city. But when I run it form superkaramba I only see the background. I already pressed like 20 times the "update" option and nothing.

Any hints?
