I use Kubuntu 8.04 and KDE 4.1.2, i have installed python-kde4 and python-qt4, but show:
"Could not load paddock python extension!
You seem to be missing some python libs, or the script is corrupted.
Install the necesary libs (script requieres PyQT and PyKDE) then try loading the script again."

paddock works with the PyQT PyKDE libs 3.x, not yet compatible with version 4 of those libs. I use Ubuntu too and it will work right out of the box, only requires superkaramba to be installed. And it's OK to keep both versions of those libs installed.

It says it is missing a Kross script or something and just shows a blank plasma widget.

We do not use kross, instead we use the PyQT and PyKDE libs. This Superkaramba widget is not compatible with plasma.

I have tried many Superkaramba docks. This is by far the best. Configuration is easy and integration of the system tray is a great plus. Great work.

Thank you for the comment. To be true the system tray is not yet well implemented, it will display the icons wrong when on Vertical mode. But this is something for the Superkaramba guys to fix, I think (if they have not done it yet). We will be evolving to KDE4, and a better dock is yet to come. :) Best regards, Lechio.

This is the greatest dock I have ever seen, are you sure this is a pre-alpha? :)
I'm using it instead of the kde panel, it's really stable and usable, it's not only a great eyecandy like many others.
I have only a little rendering problem with the kbluetooth icon which is not so transparent as should be, but this apart it's a great work! 10/10 !
Keep improving this creature, and could I suggest a mod of the window list plugin which looks like the "drawers" in Leopard?

Thank you for the comment, it's now an alpha and a bit more stable and bugfree (we hope). Will have to look at that leopard for inspiration... ;) Best regards, Lechio.

I find paddock very cute, however I have a big problem. maybe it's just me being clueless... how can I configure a launcher icon to always open a new instance of an app? like for example the konsole, I would like to start a new konsole every time I click the icon, not bringing up the already opened one...

cheers,
Aldo

Oh and try using tabs on konsole, saves space on desktop... ;)

Very nice, but wouldn't be even nicer if it was a plasmoid? I heard they have a really poweful engine for making nice things like this

And what's wrong with superkaramba? :) nice things can be done with it too, and with a few nice advantages like it being able to 'compile' themes on-the-fly. I agree with you that plasma is a nice tool, but KDE4 is not yet a standard for many distros. Will be releasing a plasmoid when i'm done working on it, by that time surely KDE4 will be a bit more of common use... :)

The paddock works nice for me, good job man. But please, don't reserve the space where is placed the dock. Maybe when you move the cursor to the place where is placed the dock and then, the dock will appear.

It reserves the space only if we want to :) right-click the dock and choose 'Configure dock...' in the configuration window go to the 'hiding ' section and configure from there. It has the same options that kicker has: auto-hiding, allow windows to cover the dock, (...). The works... :) Best regards, Lechio.

This is really handy, I love how customizable it is. Only two problems I have found so far. First is that it does not seem possible to change the icons of the individual launchers. You can browse and select the new ones, but the icon never changes, even after reloading. Second is that some of the backgrounds are funky. The default dark background is fine, but some other ones look like this:

Other than that, this dock is great, and I understand that it is still in alpha stage, so this is expected.

Hi there. First issue: the script should copy and update the icons by itself, some kind of error is going on there, are you running the theme from a non-ASCII dir? Second issue: noap, that's not how a background should look like. Looks like Superkaramba is not rotating the images... Run superkaramba from a terminal, load the theme and post the errors it outputs here please. The theme is only a couple of days old, not much testing, allot of bug squashing will need to be done... :) Best regards, Lechio.

Ok, good news for you. The issue with the background being backwards was resolved by right clicking on the dock and reloading it. That put them where they should have been. As for the icon problem, it seems the particular icon I was trying to use was corrupted or something. I've tried it out with a few others and it works great. Those were the only problems I could find with this. Now that they are solved, paddock is pretty much perfect in my opinion. :) Great work!

Good to hear. But it made me think and go read the code a bit, till now found 5 bugs... nothing too serious but it is a little far from perfect... :/ If by any chance someone uses the theme in vertical mode and changes the background, a reload dock will have to be done too... This is the most disturbing... Keep reporting others you may find please :) Regards.

Ok, got another two for you. :) First is that when I tried enabling the system tray in my panel, it worked, but it removed it from my kde panel. Also, depending on the size of paddock, it may be too small to show all the icons in the taskbar. Second thing I did was test changin the size of paddock. It seems all the sizes work, except there are problems when trying to switch from small directly to Extra Large. The first time I tried this, superkaramba crashed. The second time, no crash, but the background got screwed up (fixed with a reload) and two of my launchers disappeared (could not fix with reload). Also, FYI, the two launchers that disappeared had modified icons. I restarted paddock completely, but launchers were still gone. Here is the output from the terminal:

Hmm a superkaramba crash wasn't in our plans... OK, let's try and get things 'fixed'. The systemtray: 2 systemtrays should no be running at the same time, otherwise it may create errors, so we take the systemtray from kicker before having it displayed in our widget. The size of the systemtray doesn't seem to have a way of being defined in superkaramba (call is there but does not work), not much we can do but to ask the superkaramba guys to fix this. The problem with the background messed up seems to be ours, will try to reproduce. To get yor theme back working remove '~/.superkaramba/paddock.rc' and '~/.qt/paddock*' (or just run the 'cleanwork' bash script provided that is in the theme sdk dir), and then run superkaramba from shell. Next time don't post the 'X badwindow thing' as it is not ours and not a real superkaramba issue, will just save allot of our precious space... :)

...Just forgot to mention you need to uninstall the theme and close Superkaramba before removing the config files.
