Description:

After a few solid months of work, Tango Generator 3 is out. While it still lacks support for additional applications, it's a vast upgrade in terms of usability, reliability, expandability and icon coverage. And, as planned, it's out in time for Christmas (just)!

This release includes the following major changes:
Nearly 10 more icon themes - pushing the total up to 24.
Hundreds more icons drawn specifically for the generator.
Updated and expanded icon themes.
Improved usability - for example, themes can now be ordered via drag and drop, and ordering won't be broken due to accidential sorting.
Support for Gnome 2.20.
Support for distribution branding.
Detection of required binaries.
An entirely rewritten core: faster, more stable, more reliable and more efficient.
A far more extensible structure - expect to see more rapid updates and more complete application coverage.
Support for the saving, loading and distributing of theme configurations.

Note: To make use of updated packages, run 'rm -rf ~/.tango-generator/archives/*.tar*' before first run.

Please enjoy the app and, if you have time, have a look around the site. If you'd like to give something back, check out the 'Easy Contributions' link below.

well done man!
now it runs very well...is it normal a high cpu usage during the creation of the icon theme?

thank you for your work!

It depends a lot on your machine spec, configuration and filesystem, but ultimately that's not surprising. Making a single theme requires the downloading and unarchiving of about 25MB of data (processor intensive because of the huge number of small files) and the copying, resizing, rendering deleting, moving and linking of tens of thousands of images. Unfortunately, due to inconsistencies between themes, there are very few shortcuts that can be taken in this process.

...thank...last question:
the program begins from downloading a svg source for each icon and after creates all the png file or only downloads both png and svg file and in the end creates the theme?

sorry for my poor english

The 48x48 icon is normally generated from available SVgs, whereas smaller icons are downloaded as PNGs.

Try redownloading - that should be fixed by now. If not, post the result of "locate control-center-2.0".

thanks, it worked well now, but can you plz tell me whats your metacity theme?

also your GTK theme ;)

and plz, fix some app icons like Pidgin, and the Gnome-terminal...

thanks for this great application :)

The GTK theme's aurora looks and the metacity's murrine small rounded. When you ask for them to be fixed - do you mean there's anything specifically wrong with the icons on your install or that you don't like the icons? The latter I can't really fix, although I may provide a way to override icons in a future version. Regardless, if you'd like to comment or suggest app features I'd appreciate you posting on my website, since it's far easier to keep track of than one of hundreds of comments spread across many pages (the situation I ended up in with Tango Generator 2).

Did you create the pyrenamer and deluge icons? They're excellent. You should submit them to be included as defaults. Furthermore pyrenamer author was looking for artwork...

Thanks for the generator.

Thanks for the tip off. I did make those icons, but have been too busy with the generator to actually get round to submitting them, and have previously been met with... hostility when suggesting an icon. Do you have a bug report or link to his request for artwork? Cheers.

I'm late, sorry and happy new year, but I talked with him via email. Try to contact him directly and suggest your artwork...

If it is normal to be slow and not charging some icons?

Report

C

mejogid

You should expect it to be slow since there's about 20 MB of archives to download and a lot of processing going on. I expect some holes in the icon theme - go to http://mejogid.ohallwebservices.com/site/index.php?q=forum/4 for more information.

does this need Gnome? Can't it just build an icon pack without actually modifying the apps? I'm on pure OpenBox..

Report

C

mejogid

I haven't tested it on pure openbox, but there shouldn't be anything gnome dependent in there that doesn't degrade gracefully. If you do have problems, post any errors you'll get and I should be able to fix them. Oh, and this version doesn't yet modify applications - it merely generates an icon theme.
