The file is presented as a ".tar.gz" file, but, in fact, it is a ".tar.bz2" file. Then, to uncompress it, you have to do a tar -xvjpf 11833-k12splash.tar.gz

I like the picture of the "redheaded" kid :) Is it possible to get it as a wallpaper (without the K12-writing)?

Let me get back to you on that.
This is my daughter (Isn't she a cutie?), two years ago.
I did create a K12 wallpaper with her image, but I'll have to work something up without the text.
