Does anyone have any idea as to how to get splash screens to work under Slackware? I have no experience with splash screens and I was wondering if anyone had any insight on it.

Thanks!

Has any one here managed to get a boot abstraction screen with debian ? I dont know whther or not its possible everything to me says it must be able to as im pretty sure debian unstable (sid ) has more uptodate packages than suse.. or any other distro for that matter.

I have got a lilo boot bmp. just wondering while the processes are starting if its possible to get bmp image like in suse or mdk

At
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/stepan/bootsplash
you find the patches to use the bootsplash with kernel 2.4.19.
Plus there is a couple of Readmes and userspace programs to get the pictures attached to the initrd, create a bootsplash themes and so on.
feel free to write a README if you managed to get it work with DEBIAN. I'd love to include it.

You could try to use the script provided under http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=2179 .
But I have never tried it (don't use Mandrake)

Have you seen http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=3894&xexpand=all ?

How can I make this work with Grub?

And, maybe a little off-topic, but how can I make a graphical bootscreen while linux is booting? Kinda like Mandrake had (has?), the program that did that had a name but I forgot. I'd really like that ;)

Hi,

Thanks. I'm using a uptodate (KDE 3.0.4) SuSE 8.0 with pre-installed Splash-Screen.

But I think this link could help.

I'm using Gentoo, no idea what I have to do to make the bootsplashes work.

I'm guessing I could use the vanilla 2.4.19 kernel patch (I'm using a standard 2.4.19 kernel with some patches), copy the rcsplash to my rc.d dir, and try running mk_initrd, but I'm not sure...

Maybe someone can give me directions?
