Bracket View for Nautilus Browser
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
(please, check my homepage for more details and credits)
I have hundred of folders in my home tree and I need to keep a hierarchical structure to organize them. I tried the spatial browser mode, but it is quite unusable because I cannot visualize the structure with more than one level. And the default tree view in Nautilus wastes a lot of space! I think that it would be great to have alternative views like the "bracket view" that I propose here.
(it is just a mock-up with no actual code!)
Update: an alternative version has been uploaded.

I'd like to tell you that your idea was so good that someone on planet gnome has implyed that he wants to implement it or have someone else do that.
Great to see the Open Sourse world working as it should: community ideas -> developers -> reality.
Great work. I also like this idea and think that it would look really cool (as long as the arrows pointed to the folder that you were in, and as long as it could not take up as much space)
Blog entry (also on planet.gnome.org): http://chrislord.net/blog/Software/bracket-view-nautilus.essay

By the way, open source would really benefit from a collaborative development framework. Imagine something like gnome-look but where people can post ideas, development plans, essays, actual code, test cases... all in a really distributed process. Just compensate poeple in some way (like AdSense) (or credit them adecuatelly in the final product).
I mean, I do not have time to involve 100% in a real project but I'd not mind implementing some code or giving some ideas from time to time. A wikipedia for open source? I know that in some sense everything is working yet in this way but project granularity is too big...

Something like idea.gnome.org. That would be cool. Or maybe as an extension to the feature request bit on bugzilla.
