Description:

Just playing around giving my wife a hard time! ;-) I was using kde-look to make my desktop look like her eMac and decided to do this splash screen as an extra bonus.
I just did it because I could and wanted to demonstrate that ability to my wife and then I challenged her to try and copy my desktop which she admitted she could not do. So I got my point accross to her that her eMac was a one-size-fits-all cookie-cutter OS, and mine was anything I wanted it to be.

Linux is a Nice Minix-Clone that can be used for a multitude of things, including Development, Serving, Productivity, etc.

Mac OSX is a Unix-based OS with a GREAT UI, that's made for a Niche market.

The MAJORITY of those who use Macintosh are either:
A. Using the OS for a Single, Specific Task (Publishing with Quark, Graphics with Photoshop/CorelDraw, etc.)
B. Using it because anything else would just be too much trouble just for Music and Facebook.

Most Linux Distros assume that the user has some shred of Computer Know-How, while Mac, with their Horrific Folder Placement, and hidden files, treat the the user like a Brain-Dead Goon.

END OF ARGUMENT

Assuming that because your wife cannot make her Mac look like your as much like your Linux box as you made your Linux box look like her Mac means it can't be done is rather ignorant if not arrogant. While it isn't something built into the OS - because most Mac users are about productivity not playing with how their OS looks - products like ShapeShifter are available for those who really want to change it.

Comments like "I hate osx so much I wouldn't use it anyway" are also counterproductive to our cause, and are generally made by those who are concerned that their ability to puff out their chests and say "I use Linux" because it makes people think they must be really clever and technically minded has been eroded by the simplicity of OSX. OSX is as much an *nix OS as your linux box is. I can run a large number of the major Linux productivity apps on OSX - products such as OOo and The Gimp - as well as a whole bundle of (the once *nix only) scientific apps, with more coming all the time. Can you use Macromedia Studio MX on Linux (that's just one example, there is a plethora of others)?

I use OSX on my desktop, because it is by far the most productivity oriented OS available today. It also gives me all the tools I need to manage my servers and the servers at my client's installations, which are a combination of Linux, OSX Server and (unfortunately) M$ stuff.

I use Linux servers where there are permanent on-site tech staff who are willing to learn to do their management at the command line. I use OSX Server where there aren't such resources available. I have recently converted a whole College IT installation from M$ crap to Linux, so I am obviously not biased against Linux. Apple has also returned numerous technologies to the OpenSource community during, and since the development of OSX.

Not ignorant nor arrogant just stating the facts... I know how to install X11 and KDE on the MacOSX I'm sure most ppl here would agree that that's not making OSX look like KDE but rather installing KDE... Sure the Mac is now Unix based and that's a huge improvement but it's still a cookie cutter OS... As far as programs go there are more than enough programs for anything you wish to do in Linux you just maybe have to either point things in the right direction or handle the dependancy issues that pop up but once you set it, you can forget it, because it's rock solid and the little bit of time you spent installing it in the first place cannot even come close to the time spend trying to keep other OSes running along with their easy installed apps.
I wonder what apps you need that you think there is no Linux equal? I can do computer aided designs (CAD), edit pictures and movies, rip DVDs, MP3s and Ogg, burn them all on DVDs and CDs, bank online, read my news groups, email, surf the web with all the latest plugins, play amazing games like Unreal 2004, NeverWinterNights, Savage, Sims, etc... so what app do you need that Linux can't deliver? One that crashes a lot maybe or pokes a hole in you firewall that you spend 2 weeks patching, or maybe one that trashes your hard disks and plays hide or corrupt the files...? I would rather spend a few minutes installing transcode from source than to spend days or weeks fixing oops.

This does show your a retard. I'll bet your a recent Windows convert who is just trying to show how elite you are. NOT one thing you said here is true. The more you talk the more you bury yourself in the shite you spew. Amazing.

Everything you said above sounds like Windows.. NOT OS X. I bought my Powerbook with 10.3.x installed on it.. never have I had programs trash my data, nor did I have to reinstall because my disk was trashed.. or whatever. But I've see a lot of LEET guys like you float through the SuSE mailinglists .. you all think your quite smart and cool because you figured out some shell commands. But comments like yours show how small minded you are. tsk..tsk.

Uhm, and that's not counterproductive?

Productive is to allow everybody to use the tools he is able to work best with.

So, who is the enemy?

(OK, if you mean SCO, then I agree ;-) )

Well, then you both are uninformed tards. Why don't you check out macthemes.net or ResExcellence.com.

I've been a Linux user for 10 years but I also have a Powerbook... and let me tell you it's ABSOLUTELY not some "cookie cutter" OS on a toy machine.

You shouldn't be so arrogant.. because you don't know what your talking about...

This isn't anything more then sillyness... MacOS KDE indeed. Although, you might want to know that I can install kdelibs3 and all the rest.. I can run KMail and all the other KDE applications using X on my Powerbook. Can you run Mac apps.. thought not.

People can use whatever they want... just stop being a retard. You make the rest of the Linux community look stupid.

What's that? Something like KDE Windows XP?

KDE$ is going to have native support for each. Meaning you can run kde4 on mac without the x11 layer, andyou can run kde4 in windows without cygwin.
