Hi,
I tried to compile Alloy with "./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3 --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include/X11 --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib". But I got an error after some seconds: "checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!" I tried also ~/.kde and /home/patrick/.kde but the error still appears. Any Ideas? BTW: I'm using SuSE 8.1.

You need the kde development packages installed, kdelibs3-devel is the SuSE one I think.

This is quite possibly the best KDE theme I've ever used. Now all we need is a GTK theme. :)

Please rename your project as this naming convention puts your style to a risk for everybody who compiles a distribution. KIllustrator e.g. caused problems to SuSe...

I was the author of the 1st version of KAlloy. As you can read in the docs, I received explicit permission from Incors GmbH for kde/qt and gtk version of the Alloy Look And feel. (See also http://www.varlock.com/projects/kalloy.html )
If I remember well at the time they also planned to mention KAlloy in their customer's newsletter).

Of course there *could* still be legal issues around the name itself, as you pointed out. I suggest the current mantainer to
try to contact Incors for issues around the name, and see if they can provide a signed message or something similar to be included in future versions of the package. Just to be sure.

Thanks for the comment Simone. I did send an email to INCORS asking for their comments, however as yet I haven't had any reply (sent a week ago).

I tried compiling alloy on mandrake

This style is great!!
I'm using it now instead of keramik, and even though I changed because I prefered the way Alloy looks, I was really glad to see that my system was more responsive and felt much nicer after the change! (I'm running KDE on a P2 350Mhz).

The only thing I don't really like is the way the menu entries look when you point to them... I've tried tweking color schemes but it usually looks kind of weird and hard to read...

Keep up the good work!

Hiya,

I'm running Debian unstable and when compiling this stuff with ./configure --prefix=/usr/ --with-qt-dir=/usr/share/qt3 I get the following error:

checking sizeof size_t == sizeof unsigned long... no
configure: error:
Apparently on your system our assumption sizeof size_t == sizeof unsigned long
does not apply. Please mail kde-devel@kde.org with a description of your system!

Any suggestions?

Hello there!

I tried to install Alloy like this:

./configure --prefix=/usr/kde3 --with-qt-includes=/usr/include/qt3
make (I got many errors here)
make install

A part of the error messages:

make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/root/Themes/Alloy/alloy-0.4'
Making all in alloystyle
make[2]: Entering directory `/root/Themes/Alloy/alloy-0.4/alloystyle'
make[2]: F

i had the same prob: compile is missing some headers, that are contained in kdebase-dev. so install it and everything should work.

Does anybody know how to install on mdk 9.1? Compilation is fine but when I go to the Control Center it's not listed with the other styles.

I'm using Mandrake 9.1, KDE 3.1

Probably the files have been installed somewhere in /usr/local where the Control Center doesn't look at.
You can remove them with "make uninstall" and then install Alloy again with "./configure --prefix=/usr" ...

Transparent menu dont work...

What version of kde/qt are you using? And does it work with other styles?

Report

Red Hat 9
kde 3.1.11
qt 3.1.1

Yes, transparent menu work with other styles.

kde 3.1.11??? What's that? Some DeadRat freak version?

Are you by any chance compiling against kdelibs 2.x, 3.0.x?

Report

dbrownlees

Hmm, I don't think I can help you sorry - menu transparency is handled by KStyle and Alloy simply states whether or not it wants it used. As Alloy is requesting it be used, I've no idea why it doesn't work if it does with other styles.

What happened to the colored scrollbar thumbs?! I liked those. Also, the new menu behavior is a little weird: on mouse hover, the menu title text changes to white, but the background doesn't change (this is hard to read with my color theme.) Any chance of making some of these new enhancements optional?

The new windec is great, BTW-- Alloy is becoming one of my favorite styles.

You can configure scrollbar colours using alloystylerc - see the README :)

The mouseover on menubar items is a Bug (tm). I was playing with it for 0.4, and it seems like I didn't pay enough attention... :)

A quick fix for this is to change alloystyle.cpp line 1177 from
QColor color(active ? group.highlightedText() : group.buttonText());
to
QColor color(group.buttonText());

The gradient on mouseover is broken too, however that's more complex - I'll be releasing 0.4.1 shortly to fix this and any other minor bugs.
