There appears to be a small bug with Kicker or, more specifically, with KNewsTicker. Around the upper and left box margins, there is a constant, but irregular flickering, which is not present with any other theme that I've tried so far.
Otherwise I'm really pleased with your work. Alloy is a beautful, clean style, which I think I'll be using for a while now.
Cheers, Gero

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix it for 0.4.1....(bugfix only release).

This isn't fixed in 0.4.1 sorry, as it isn't as simple as I thought. I'll try to get it for the next version.

Thanks for replacing those ugly KDE-Default-like splitters with something nicer :)

That was the key that made me change. Keramik's one is horrible.

Debian unstable with Xfree 4.3.0. I get this error:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXinerama_pic
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [kwin_alloy.la.closure] Error 1

Any ideas?

AFAIK PIC is now the default for xfree86 4.3 in debian, so xlibs-pic (and also that file file) no longer exist.

I've no idea how to fix you problem :), however if you email me (dbrownlees at paradise.net.nz) I'd be happy to help you look into it further.

I really like the new windows decoration, but the window borders and titlebar are much too thick IMHO. Is it possible to make the borders smaller, like the MKUltra window decoration (http://www.kdelook.org/content/show.php?content=2865)? Smaller window titlebars would also be great ;)
Thanks for making this great style and kwin decoration :)

Ah, I looked at alloyclient.cpp and noticed that the size is easily changeable.
I've set TITLESIZE to 18 and FRAMESIZE to 2. At least on my screen this looks a lot better :)
Again, thanks for making this great style.

umm, you do realize that you can set your colors to whatever you want, don't you?

Its kinda rediculous to say you dont like a style because of the colors the author chose for his screenshot.

I installerd the theme, but I don't see the Window Decoration in the Window Decoration's box. I what directory I must to save the files?? And what files?? (I use mandrake 9.1, and I have alloy.so in ~/.kde/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/ and alloy.themerc in ~/.kde/share/apps/kstyle/themes/alloy.themerc)

./configure --prefix=~/.kde
make
make install
should put everything in the correct place if you wish to install to your home dir.

kwin_alloy.so and kwin_alloy.la should end up in lib/kde3/ and alloy.desktop in share/apps/kwin.

nice window dec and nice style

but

could you do the window decoration have round borders ? like the web window dec ? ( round borders in all borders )

is that too hard to implement ? why isnt there more themes with round borders ? am i the only one who likes that ?

Check out the new kwin decoration from
Sandro (ceebx), its called knifty and
has rounded borders.
Its beautifull!!

hi,

At the moment I'm trying to make the deco look similar to the original alloy Java Look&Feel from Incors which doesn't have round borders.

But if more people request this feature I will do this "sometime" (perhaps optional)...

Here goes my thumb up to the idea,
since you keep the button accessible
from the rightmost upmost corner.

:)

Thanks for you work!!

Report

Can you make the buttons so when I
move suddenly the mouse to the right
upper corner I can close the window
whithout target the button precisely?

Like winXP, I just move the mouse to
the upper right corner and the close
button will be focused.

Thanks! Its time to make this the
default one in KDE!!!

90% approve is astonishing!!!

Yes, you got the point.
This is THE thing I really
dislike in keramik, although it
is so beautifull. But not usable
considering this point.

Thanks again for your time and
commitment,

Sandro!!!

yes, it should be the default style. Very professional look. But it is based on the alloy Java Look&Feel from Incors. Is that licenced under GPL??

Report

ceebx

Great idea. What I will try to do is to move the buttons closer to the left and right corners for maximized windows. this should hopefully do the trick. ;)

regards,
ceebx (Sandro)
