Description:

PCLinuxOS @ 1024x768 running Aero-AIO and Liquid Weather. I know the KBFX menu button is a bit too Window$-like for some, but I'm too old and too blind to care. So sue me! *grin* That's why the icons are at 48x48

To microchip:

Sorry, but we exhausted the thread length for that discussion so I couldn't reply there.

"We" prefer Puppy 2.0 for the older stuff that will boot from CD, and DSL for the older stuff that needs a floppy boot to load.

"We" choose PCLinuxOS for the better quality donations we receive. Generally we'll load PCLinuxOS .93 MiniMe and configure to suit the client. We are investigating Kubuntu 6.06 but it's not looking good from the loading time viewpoint.

You should really check out Zenwalk Linux. Its fast, fresh and very easy to use (altough I'm not using it, I always work with SuSE)

One of the few I haven't tried. I'll give it a look. Thanks.

As old as my tongue and a bit older than my teeth ... 56 in human years.

I'm really happy to hear from an older man who is using Linux :-) :-)

Yeah, and I only started using it at 55! I supervise a project that rebuilds old pc's for charity and we can't afford to BUY anything, so Linux was the obvious choice. Now I'm a convert. Of course it helped that I grew up with DOS 3.1 and didn't pay any attention to Window$ until v3.11 - although I'm one of the few people I know who has installed Windows 1.0 (CGA graphics only, if you please).

Cheers

Can't you get support from somewhere so you can afford those old PC's?

The government already pays my wages and supplies the labour and some materials e.g. tools, spare parts, etc. The PC's are donated by large companies like Qantas and other people and organisations who might otherwise throw them away. With an appropriate flavour of Linux on them, a good clean up and testing, plus a few new parts, they're ready for service. They go to refugees, women's refuges, community groups, schools, unemployed people, etc.

Apologies for the size of the screen preview. For some reason the system wouldn't let me upload anything bigger than 150kb despite saying that 300kb was the limit!

Solved problem by uploading preview as JPG rather than PNG.
