It wants to install themes in:
KDE4PREFIX/share/kde4/apps/waheela/themes
At least on my installation it should be:
KDE4PREFIX/share/apps/waheela/themes/
Where KDE4PREFIX is where you have KDE4 installed.
If that seems like where appdata should go on your system, here is an easy fix:
1. Extract the waheela archive
2. $ cd /path/to/extracted_archive/waheela (make sure you are in the waheela directory)
3. $ sed -i.bak -e 's|/share/kde4/apps|/share/apps|g' ./themes/*/CMakeLists.txt
The problem is Waheela uses something hardcoded like in waheela/themes/Bubbles/CMakeLists.txt:
install_files( /share/kde4/apps/waheela/themes/Bubbles FILES
background.jpg
background-wide.jpg
preview.jpg
theme.config
)
It should be more like:
install(FILES
background.jpg
background-wide.jpg
preview.jpg
theme.config
DESTINATION ${DATA_INSTALL_DIR}/waheela/themes/Bubbles
)

And a little README of how to set it up would also be nice.

Trying to play with the source code of the updateMetadata method, it seems the problem is related to spaces in the filename that are rendered as %20s in the arturl metadata (try it for yourself using d-feet or qdbusviewer to catch the d-bus signal): adding "cover.replace("%20"," ");" after "cover.replace("file://","");" seems to solve the problem.
I suppose there should be a better solution (as with the proposed one other characters escaped in a similar way in the path of the cover file would cause the same problem)
