Ok, with the last fix to the source, I got it to configure, build, and install on my 8.04 machine! I am running it now.

I am going to do a bit of testing...

Hi!

This great app not only converts sound, it also converted me from Windows to Linux ;). A big Thank you!

A small wishlist.

Download albumart and a choice to save it embedded, to file or both.

Output to more than one directory.

Rip to more than one format at the same time.

A BSD port so I can use PC-BSD.

Again, a big Thanks.

Kind Regards
/Bernt

thank you.
downloading album art would be an option for the cd ripper.
output to multiple directories? how is that supposed to work?
ripping to more than one format seems to be very very special so i don't think i'll implement that.
i don't use bsd and i don't know how the situation will be for kde 4 but the source should be independend from the os so soundkonverter should run on all plattforms supporting kde.

hey, soundkonverter is great, but... i ran into some problems: while recoding some big files first my /tmp was too small, fixed it, then i discovered decoding to wave-file stops at around 6gb... (mplayer, ~5gb with mpg123)

would it be a problem to add some "short circuits" with decoding to stdout and encoding from stdin, like:
mpg123 -s file.mp3 | oggenc -b64 -o out.ogg -r -

would also save io-ressources

hi, i plan to make that for version 1.0. changing it in the current version is too difficult. unfortunately it will take some time until i can release a new version. please be patient. ;)

Is there a way for me to call cdparanoia with the -O parameter in soundkonverter? I couldn't find where to do something like that.

select the detailed tab and click the advanced button.

That only shows me options for the encoder, not the actualy ripper.

hm ... you're right...
then the only way to do that is to edit the plugin file. copy the file KDEDIR/share/apps/soundkonverter/plugins/320.cdparanoia.soundkonverter.xml to ~/.kde/share/apps/soundkonverter/plugins/320.cdparanoia.soundkonverter.xml , open it and add the parameters to 'param'. but there is no quick way. (it's on my todo list for v. 1.0)

I'm trying to convert a folder full of MP3's to Q5 OGG's. What settings do I need to use to get q5 in SoundKonverter?

and yes, I already know mp3 > ogg isn't smart, but I need ogg for compatibility reasons.

Thank You,
~ Austin

55 is -q 5,05
i know this is not perfect, i'll probably change that in the next version. if you want exact -q 5 you can use the 'advanced options' and replace %p by your parameters (and then save as profile).

Report

AustinMatherne

So wouldn't 50 be Q5 then?

Also how come I cant select Stereo when converting to ogg, only mono?

Thanks, for the reply,
~ Austin

Report

the value for the '-q' parameter is calculated based on the quality range of the encoder (oggenc: -1 to 10).
have a look at the tooltip of the quality input field for more infos.

oggenc does not support upmixing. so you can only downmix to mono. just don't check the channel checkbox in order to leave the channels untouched.

Is there any way I can import the gpg-key of your repository?

Output from smart on SuSE 10.3:

"gpg failed to import keyid 7d03c235f7e182e7, please make sure that gpg is installed, that the keyserver subkeys.pgp.net is working and that the package /var/lib/smart/packages/soundkonverter-0.3.7-9.1.i586.rpm has a valid signature."

Beside that, sk is simply great, my favourite ripper / en- / decoder by far - thank you!

hi,
the gpg key is set automaticly by the opensuse build service. i haven't looked at it yet. is smart unable to import it? yast does that.
if you want to import it, try rpm --import http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/HessiJames/openSUSE_10.3/repodata/repomd.xml.key that's what the .repo file contains.

No idea why smart couldn't import it (it wasn't able to do on several 10.3s), but anyway, importing it via you rpm-command did the trick and smart knows about the key now. Thank you again!

Hi.

I installed the media-sound/soundkoverter-0.3.6 Gentoo ebuild on my ~x86 system with media-sound/amarok-1.4.8. At the end of the installation of soundkoverter, the following was shown:

Quote: * For AmaroK users there is a script included with this package.
* You can enable it with the Script Manager tool in Amarok, after
* installing kde-base/qtruby.

I do have qtruby installed (I installed it just prior to running amarok after having installed soundkonverter).

But where might I find soundkonverter? It's *NOT* shown in the script manager. But there is:

Quote:mike@system /usr/share/apps/soundkonverter/amarokscript $ ls -la
insgesamt 24
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 3. Apr 23:24 .
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 3. Apr 23:24 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1139 30. Apr 2007 README
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10444 30. Apr 2007 soundKonverter.rb

I suppose that means, that something indeed has been installed for Amarok - but why does the script not show up?

Thanks a lot for any help!

hi,
please run sounkonverter once and look at ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/soundKonverter/
soundkonverter creates/updates these files every time the list of supported file formats changes.
