Description:

This wizard will help you create high quality backups of DVD movies to XviD format.

It is supposed to be the opposite of the famous DVD:Rip tool: Easy to use, a minimal amount of adjustable settings and automatic detection of the optimal values of almost all adjustable settings. It should produce very high quality rips, even if you have no idea what the settings mean and just use it in the next-next-next-finish way.

The wizard supports title and language selection, AC3 stream copy or MP3 audio, single or two-pass encoding and automatic splitting at scene boundaries.

DVD Rip-O-Matic can also generate executable ripping scripts. This allows you to run it as a background process, end your KDE session and go to bed.

It has not been tested very well yet, so please tell me if it works for you.

Requirements:

* Kommander 1.0 ( Part of KDEWebDev package, version 3.3.x )

* Recent Transcode

* Recent MPlayer version with support for DVD reading, DVD decryption, LAME MP3 encoding and XviD encoding. MPlayer version 1.0rc5 and newer versions are known to work perfectly.

This release features a custom target size for the generated AVI file. This is very useful when you want to rip multiple titles and make them fit on a single CD or DVD.

Special thanks goes to Tijmen Collignon for having me borrow some of his messy NTSC disks.

./Installer.kmdr: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `borrow-left'
./Installer.kmdr: line 1: `borrow-left!DOCTYPE UI>'

(borrow-left means there have to stand this little borrow, the opposit of this one: >

I have SUSE 10 and 64 Bit, could you help me?

It's not a shell script but a Kommander script. As you can read in the README file, you need to run it using Kommander.

are you planning on adding other file formats and codecs? i think it is great that you chose xvid as video codec, but mp3, ac3 and the avi container format are all proprietry.
it would be really great if you added the whole xiph-codec-combinations, the old one being:
xvid-video + ogg-vorbis-audio + ogg media container format
and - even better - the new one:
theora-video + ogg-vorbis-audio + ogg media container format

offering these would bring better compression/quality in audio and video and would remove dependency on win32codecs!

anyway, THANKS a lot for your work

Yes, I might add OGM support some day.

Currently, this is more difficult to do, because mplayer/mencoder does not have native support for the OGM container format. Patches are always welcome though! :) Also, virtually any player, even hardware DVD players, can play XviD, while many players do not play OGM.

i have a solution to this: why not use another encoder? i mean there are so many mencoder and transcode frontends nowadays, although mencoder is very limited.
on the other hand there are no frontends to newer and better encoders like vlc(videolan) or gstreamer. these two encoders support much more video and audio codecs and developement is more active, please consider this!
i would love to see a good kde encoder that suppport the new ogg formats like theora.
thanks alot

p.s.: i am asking the other kde*video*encoder*software developers this too and i would offer help in form of testing and packaging(on/for *bsds and some smaller distros) and bug-reporting

The problem is that there is very little information about how to rip DVD content using gstreamer, and how to use gstreamer to detect all kinds of information about the DVD, like the available audio languages, chapters, and so on.

If someone can show me a tutorial about this subject, I'm interested.

When starting, I get the error:

Your version of MPlayer does not support XviD.
Please verify if you have XviD libraries installed and if your distribution enabled XviD support in MPlayer.

But my mplayer (version 1pre07) supports xvid, it plays xid-DVDs.

What can I do for getting the program working?

thanks
michael

Probably you need to install mencoder to. I had the same problem. And forget to install mencoder.

Yes, it works for FC3! Yes, this one stumped me for a while too. I had unpacked 4 diffrent Mplayer RPMs before I saw that there were two different players---Mplayer and Movie Player (Xvid), which I had from before. Once I got the right mencoder for the right player, it worked like a charm! The only other major issue I had was finding all the correct libraries. Kommander Editor was what I initialy used for building the Rip-O-Matic and used RPMs for everything else on Fadora Core 3. Great job and a very nice program!

The download link points to the DVD Assembler kommander package, not not the rip-o-matic package. Could you please change it. Untill then you find the package on this link http://pingwing.xs4all.nl/view.php/page/DVDRipOMaticby

Please run

mencoder -ovc help

from the commandline. It displays a list of encoders that is supported by your mplayer/mencoder version. I guess your mplayer version was built without support for XviD encoding.

I really want to get this program working but everytime I try to run it I get a dialog box reporting that mplayer does not support xvid. Im pretty sure that I have all the codecs installed and that I can play XVids in mplayer. I have the latest version of mplayer. Any suggestions will be great.

I love this app, it's really good and as simple as possible. I have one request though: I have some DVD images on my Harddisk and I want to rip those too. Please allow me to specify the dvd device so I can point it to those paths too!

Thanks!

Editing the wizard and changing the device path is easy. But you can also make a symlink from /dev/dvd to the location where your ISO is mounted.
