I've tried to play various subtitle files along the movies, but the subtitles never show. Does anyone have a clue what might cause this problem?

I love kaffeine, but would like some extra options to be added. The player shows the time completed of the current song, and I would like it show the time remaining. I can change this, but next time it starts, I have to change it again. I would like to be able to change the setting. Secondly, if I am not viewing a video or a visualisation, there should be some way of hiding the video area. The blank box looks odd. Other than that, great work!

Hi,

I get the following error in compilation.

videowindow.cpp: In static member function `static void VideoWindow::XineEventListener(void*, const xine_event_t*)':
videowindow.cpp:521: error: `XINE_MSG_PERMISSION_ERROR' undeclared (first use this function)
videowindow.cpp:521: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in.)
make[2]: *** [videowindow.lo] Error 1

Any idea, what's wrong?

thanks,
Osho

Kaffeine 0.4.3b requires at least xine-lib 1.0rc4 to compile.

I love it and use it daily.
It is really usable for both musiques & videos
Suggestions:

-could the file browsing be include in the playlist (amarok-like) because to open a single file, you have to open the playlist, to open the browser, to select it and to close everything...

-why is .m3u not a recognized format () in the playlist browser?(error?)

-It failed to open on the fly my favorite m3u from internet
http://www.bide-et-musique.com/play.html?server=stream.bide-et-musique.com&port=9100&mount=&file=dummy.m3u

That are just suggestions, and whatever your multimedia player is the best I found for linux.
thanks for your hard work

Well, in this special case the mime type is not detected correctly. Download the M3U file und open it from HD will work.

I have to commend the efforts of the team. I used to prefer KMPlayer as the interface was nicer, but now that is the reverse. The layout is clear, the keyboard accelerators are well thought out, the button selection perfect, the feature set is wonderful, the name rules and I love the icon!

If it was my app I'd have the scrolling info display as a statusbar with a little icon to double click for all the fancy details xine displays. But that's me.

The well categorised file and play menus please me especially :) I look forward to your next release!

please support shoutcast/winamp5 video !!!

Internet TV rocks !!!!

and would also be fun to have some sort of
docking on the side of the screen.

like the external sidebar. kicker applet is not enough, because we would need to add a kicker, resize it, etc. takes to long. please allow desktop docking, so when we maximize others window, they dont go over.

you know what I mean ? like "Always on top" but window never go under either ;)

AND PLEASE INTERNET TV !!!!

The Help file says "You can overwrite xine configuration with command line switches. Use for example 'kaffeine -a arts' to set audio driver or 'kaffeine -x xv' to set video driver."

Finally a media player that does what I want it to do. Here is a list of the things I like about Kaffeine.

- Dropping new videos onto it play right away instead of queuing.
- Dropping new videos onto it doesn't change the size of the window or the location.
- Middle clicking allows me to jump anywhere in the video stream instead of dragging the slider. Left clicking would be better but this still beats the hell out of grabbing the slider and dragging it everytime I want to jump around in a video.
- Simple to use and everything is organized logially.

Thanks for the great xine ui :)

Another great feature, middle clicking on additional videos plays it in the existing player instead of launching more copies of the player.

I really like Kaffeine and the new version adds some really nice features. I use Kaffeine to play my m4a-Files (I've ripped all my CDs with iTunes) in Linux, because xmms can't play them. What I would really appreciate : the possibility to play files in the playlist in random order...

have you tried the visualization that comes with it? goom? it's very beautiful and very nice playing CD or e.g. internet-radio over it!!

i really like this tool --- maybe the most usefull frontend to watch dvd -- xine is a great library, but the GUI that comes natively with it is not that good

the difference kplayer and kaffeine: worlds: kplayer is using mplayer, kaffeine xinelib --- this says everything :-) (ever tried to watch a dvd with menus on mplayer? over xinelib it just works)

but i agree with the equalizer: it is not that user-friendly --- the problem is that the small bar-handlers are not that easy to catch with the mouse ... same for the timeline-handler; but that are details, that do not disturb using this tool i think

Hey Kaffeine supports Mplayer too...so some sort of exchange between two similar project would be good...IMHO the best frontend (but is for xine only) I've seen and used is gnome's Totem, it has the half of features compared to kaffeine but is fast and has a great gui, expecially for fullscreen mode.

A must try. I use it on Mandrake 9.2. I had to install xine-arts.

But now it totally rocks, plays mp3, avi. Cool interface, good playlist. Great app!

Tried this out last night and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Needs some work on stability and I had to build the libdvdcss and libdvdread from scratch (as I downloaded the slack tgz) to get decryption working but, hey, still very easy.
Nice job.
