Description:

(the screenshots are from version 0.0.5)
Please note this is a development version of PlaybaK, you may see a lot of bugs and there are missing a lot of basic features like repeat or aspect ratio.
The idea of creating PlaybaK was based upon a mockup created by menace1982 that you can see here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/A+Media+Player+for+KDE4?content=94472
PlaybaK is (or will be) a combination of the best functions of several multimedia players and is capable of playing music and videos (soon CDs, DVDs and photos). It is able to distinguish different types of videos (music videos, TV shows, movies, personal videos,...) but it still has some bugs. PlaybaK allows you to read the song's lyrics (soon it will fetch the lyrics and timed lyrics if available) and also allows you to know more about the singers with a brief search made by PlaybaK itself.

Certain basic functions are not available yet. As an example, for now, there are no visualizations due to Phonon's limitations.
A further development of PlaybaK will depend on everyone's opinion on it. Therefore, it would be appreciated if you commented below, reporting opinions, problems, suggestions...

We hope you will enjoy KDE Media Player.

How to add timed lyrics
1. Search the lyrics
2. Open the music on KDE Media Player
3. Right click the music in the playlist and click "Edit lyrics..."
4. Paste the lyrics you found.
Hard way:
5. Do the same for each line: move the cursor to the line, set its time
Easier way:
5. Click "Save", play the music and press record button located in the middle top box (you should see the lyrics on it, if you don't, double click the song).
6. Click the bottom of the box when someone says the next line.
7. Click save button once you're done
8. Disable record mode pressing the button again
9. Double click the music in the playlist and enjoy
(later it will be possible to download timed lyrics)

Coming features on next version (0.0.8)
- Subtitles support
- Costumization
- Album cover fetch
- Better Nepomuk integration (if possible)
- Better collection (including artist/album/track editors)
- Brazilian Portuguese language

Don't worry, those warnings are normal.
Currently I'm programming it on openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 7 and it works correctly.

Firstly, congratulations! I like very much what you are doing.

About the name, what do you think "KoolPlayer"? I think your app is really cool ;-)

Thank you :)
The poll has already started but I'll make a new one for KoolPlayer and PlaybaK (since PlaybaK is the winner so far).

Hey congratulations for this project. Its really nice.

(Posso tentar adivinhar que sejas Português e do FCP :))

I would like to tell you some opinions i have about the UI:

The frame that you placed in the header that as a buttons for play, back and forward its not necessary since you have already that controls in the player main frame with a very nice style i can say.

Also the lyrics part in the same header could be placed in the video frame. Then you get more place for the rest and you unify the main frame UI.

Mais uma vez parabéns.

Obrigado!
(sim acertaste xD)

I know there are repeated buttons but the ones in the video frame are optional (but I didn't add the option to hide them yet).
The lyrics are on the header because it is useless while I can't make it show visualizations.
In case you can't understand some parts of the UI check the mockup made by menace1982 (look at the description), some parts aren't done yet so you may find the UI has some strange parts.

(respondi em Inglês só para poderem todos perceber)

Mais uma vez obrigado e é bom (e raro) encontrar aqui alguém Português.

Does this support ratings, preferably using Nepomuk's semantic info.? And does it support smart playlists, etc.?

Report

KDE Media Player is still under development. Some basic features are missing but ratings support using Nepomuk will be supported on next version. Smart playlists support will be added maybe on version 0.0.8.

Very nice, thanks. Glad to see more use of Nepomuk across various media players.

Thank you for your ideas.

1. I had that idea too and maybe I'll do that but only after doing the most important things
2. Technically it already has that but I commented that code because it didn't work well (if you want to try it and have the source code just uncomment the lines 237 to 245 of the file kmp.cpp) but later I'll try to make it work better.
3. What do you mean with this one?
4. That's one of my priorities for 0.0.7 or 0.0.8
5. Can you explain better this one? (if it's what I think it was one of my ideas too)
6. I'll make a poll so people can vote for the best name, I vote for PlaybaK :D.

You have thought about a future to add dvb to kmp? Thanks.

Report

Depp

There is an excellent concept DVB-player ( http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Analog% 2BDVB+TV+Recorder+for+KDE4?Content=94534 ). It is better if the DVB-player will be made separately, I hope someone takes it and this idea too.

For now I'll do the planned features but after it will have the features people ask so if you want dvb it can have but not for now...

Hello What are the steps to install your software from source? I have OpenSUSE and KDE 4.4.2. I beg you to help, as the idea of player I liked very much! In return is prepared as well as help in any way, for example with the web site, as well as I can translate the program into Russian.

Thanks!

Hello

On console (let's suppose kmp006 is the folder where you extracted the source code):
cd kmp006
mkdir build
cd build
cmake .. (don't forget the 2 dots)
make
sudo make install

If you don't want to install it just run kmp006/build/src/kmp

Tell me if it doesn't work.

Report

Depp

Previously, I did exactly stage "cmake .." proceeding normally. At the stage of "make" error (http://pastebin.com/NcdmPjZW). This is a log of the install version 0.0.5 but 0.0.6 is the same

I guess I know what's the problem, you have to change some files. Read the comment by cjann on Apr 11 2010 . I'll fix that problem on next version.

I installed it. I had to remove the "#include "phonon/globalconfig.h"after this application has been established. If you try to open a file: " The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly."

So you mean it works but when you try to open a file it gives that error, right?
Does it work if you open a file from collection?
Do you mind opening it in console and paste it?

Report

Depp

Yes, I'm sure.) After scanning the collection was only one item. This item is an unknown artist. I can send a screenshot if there is a need. Well, or logs or something.

Report

The error happened because kmp was trying to use equalizer but your backend doesn't support it.
About the collection, are you sure you added folders in collection settings?

Report

Depp

After I commented out these lines error disappeared. But the collection is still not working.

I have a drop system settings when I try to enter in the item of multimedia (in KDE system settings). So I have one backend by default in opensuse 10.2.=)

Are you using Xine backend?
Try to open the file kmpbase.cpp from the source code and write // in the beginning of the lines 346, 347, 348, 349, 350 and compile it again.

Report

I'm not working collection. The scanning process takes place but no file is not added to the collection.
