ShowImg is a feature-rich image viewer which can display numerous formats, including JPEG, PNG, GIF (animated), MNG, PSD, ... It consists of a tree view frame, a directory/preview frame, and a view frame. The (larger) view frame can be exchanged with the (smaller) directory/preview frame. It can preview and display images from multiple directories and search for identical images. ShowImg also features a full-screen mode, zooming, sorting, drag'n'drop with Konqueror, support for images in compressed archives (tar, tar.gz, zip, ...) and kipi plugins.

You can add to your lists of tools the Wegif Photo Animation Software, whenever you are working with your project. Because the software has so many features and easy to use.

Thanks a lot for this usefull application : I don't like manage photos by albums, but by directories.
1/ Is there a project to integrate a gtkam-like module ?
2/ I'm not able to change the configuration of the windows's position even if they're enlarged… Is it normal ?

For the life of me, I cannot get this to work. I'm running Kubuntu 6.10 (edgy) with GIMP, Krita, ShowImg, Gwenview, and I still cannot view PSD files without Photoshop.
Does anyone have a workaround to fully view PSD files (not just thumbnails) without using Photoshop?

yes: you miss the kdebase-devel package on your system. Just install it.

please, could you send this kind of message on the showimg mailing list ( http://listes.jalix.org/wws/info/showimg-users ) or me directly (ric__at__jalix_dot_org) and could you be more precise by giving the name of your distribution, your QT/KDE version and, as attached file, the config.log file and the complete 'make' output.
Thanks a lot

One problem I experienced using Gwenview and Showimg on Suse 9.3 is the huge amount of memory they are using.
Using the lightweight Kuickshow I could open plenty images at once from Konqueror. Unfortunately, Kuickshow is not shipped with Suse9.3 anymore.
With Gwenview and Showimg, I can open, say, 8 images from konqueror. Then my whole system is crashing because it is using the complete memory (384 RAm, 512 swap).
Is there a way to detect if Showimg has already been started (eg. DCOP) and then just to open a new window from the already started application instance?
Regards

You mean: open then close showimg 8 times?
> Is there a way to detect if Showimg has already been started (eg. DCOP) and then just to open a new window from the already started application instance?
It's almost already done in fact: if showimg is started and you launch 'another' showimg giving a folder, then the started instance will open the given folder

What I mean is:
I browse in Konqueror and need to open a few images in an external graphics viewer. Then I want to arrange the single image windows side by side on my screen. For me it seems that for each image an own instance of ShowImg is created, eating my whole memory.

But it's really strange because showimg is a 'KUniqueApplication' so you should not have several windows but only one, with displayed image changing each time you open a new image.
you have showimg 0.9.4?

Well JPEG2000 and SVG will be supported in next release (see showimg ML for alpha release) and you need gimp and perl extension for gimp to see PSD files (I need help to support PSD nativily)
