5 .8
Description:

A KDE Portage frontend that allows you to do most common software maintenance tasks on gentoo systems.
Joint project with openusability.org.

With this version we have established a GUI that allows you to do your most common tasks you have to do in your emerge-life. Kuroo does not aim to subsitute the power of the command-line EMERGE, but is thought as a little helper for your daily life. We will continue to enable more powerfull features in the forthcoming versions. If you like to ask for a certain functionallity feel invited to do so on: kuroo.org, #kuroo or info@kuroo.org.

Feature highlight:
Unified package view: fast package browsing and searching with filters.
Package Inspector for advanced package management.
Configuration files management with KDiff3.
Support for multiple portage overlay's.
Package stability calculation.

Please tell me what is your KDE theme. Espesially the decoration. :)

Great program you have there. I used to use Gentoo and when I used it I allways searched something like this for it.

Great work!

Is this the beta1 version or is this actually the 'final' release, if this is the final you should update http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-425470-highlight-kuroo.html showing that the new version is out (and also get added to portage).

Oh and there is a bug in .71 (not sure if its in the new version), if the emerge is going to take longer than 24 hours it will wrap back around to 0, so if something is going to take 30 hours to emerge, it will show it as '6' hours (I noticed this when I put all of KDE 3.5.1 in the queue). Maybe it should also show how many days?

This is the beta1 release.
The 24h limit bug is noted...

Despite of having moved away from Gentoo, I love to see Kuroo get so much better, especially in respect to the user interface. Amazing work, karye!

I love the new interface! I can't wait to try it!! (when it gets into portage)

This program has come a long way in such a short time. Thanks for the awesome work!

Just to help: use flags description are
in /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc
and may be overlayed
(usually /usr/local/portage/profiles/use.desc)
I'm writing an hugly bash script to parse
them...... (in ebuild and then descriptions)

Just tried out new 0.70.1-beta1 :
I like way to manage package.use
(directly in portage->use flags view,
but still no flag set is parsed in the
ebuild tab and no flags description is
fetched from ufed.....I can hope for the future that this will be possible...)

just a note:
updating to tcsh-6.14-r1 was blocking when
the emerge comes to
#chmod 444 ... ....
I emerged without Kuroo (command line)
anything else is fine...

(is maybe cause Kuroo itself is using tcsh
or sandbox prevents kuroo from doin chmod
444 ??)

Don't know what is causing this.

There would be an item in the menu that portrayed the meaning 'Connect to remote machine.'
After connecting to the remote machine, it does everything kuroo would normally do.

Report

rickvernam

any thought towards adding support for kuroo to 'manage' remote machines?
Surely it's possible via ssh or something like that...

just an idea...

Time, my friend, is of so short supply ;-)
Yes, I have thought of that feature too. Usability, increasing performance and old feature request are on the table for now.
Plz elaborate...

My idea ended there :-)

I meant ... suppose you had that feature, how would it look like? How would like to work?

I'm trying Kuroo 0.70.1, but the Watcher doesn't appear to do anything, all the tab window's are always empty.
I've checked the "Kuroo Home" in the settings and all apears to be right.

when i click "Check updates", the console output is:

I'm trying ver 0.7 rc3 , and would need to know if is using esearch/ needing esync
anymore ,
also, Gentoo Watcher "update" menu entry
of toolbar icon doesn't appear to do anything, my gentoo watcher window is alway empty (does this means my system is up-to date?)

Report

C

karye

No, kuroo does not require esync nor esearch anymore.
Regarding the watcher, check the settings to see if you right kuroo "home" path.
Plz try kuroo-0.70.0 which was released today.

Report

mattepiu

Ok, thanks, for now I report my tests:
a)decent stability, my system crashed only when I moved 8 times in the tabs while doing a sync with gentoo mirrors.

b)"Backup saved in /var/tmp/kuroo/backup."
after etc-update with kompare didn't results in anything created under
/var/tmp/kuroo, also there isn't neither
backup folder neither a backup file.

( I forgot to specify 0.7_rc3.
also watcher kuroo home path is
/var/tmp/kuroo , seems to be correct.
(watcher blocked by my firewall ?
firefox reads feeds correctly...
akregator also)
