Packages for various distros can be downloaded from download page: http://home.gna.org/kvpnc/en/download.html

You need libgcrypt (http://www.g10code.com/p-libgcrypt.html). Crypto++ is now obsolete. One of them is additional needed: vpnc, freeswan, openswan, strongswan, ipsec-tools, pptpclient, l2tpd, xl2tpd, openl2tp, openvpn, vtun, openssh.

Hi
I mean, if it works also with the cisco vpnclient and not only with vpnc, because my cisco vpnclient is working so lovely, why shall I change.

The original cisco vpnclient has some bad things:
- disable all other interfaces than the vpnclient uses (per option on concentrator)
- needs to compile a kernel module
- kernel module is propriotary
- not free
- works only with kernel 2.4 (unofficial patch for kernel 2.6 had crashed my kernel!)

vpnc as free client dont have these problems. It uses the tun module from linux kernel which is mostly availiable by default at modern distros.

So i recommend to use vpnc. For a nice KDE interface you can use kvpnc ;)

Yes its for Cisco VPN. Its a replacement for the Cisco VPN client.

Its for use with Cisco VPN Concentrator. Kvpnc doesn't support the original cisco vpnclient.

It doesn't work for me. It compiles and runs just fine, but when I try to connect to the VPN at work, I get "authentication error" in the debug window.

Running vpnc-connect by hand works just fine.

Weird.

Please activate debug console in settings and restart kvpnc. Then look whats happen.

Also try cvs.

I downloaded the CVS version, and it once again compiled and ran just fine. But when I try to connect:

Trying to connect to "(vpn concentrator name)" with user "(my user)" and IPSec ID "(my ID)"
Process started.
/usr/bin/vpnc: authentication unsuccessful

I can replicate this error running vpnc-connect manually by typing in the wrong password. I'm sure that I've entered my password correctly in kvpnc.

Hope this helps!
