Last changelog:

Ver 3.9 21 days ago

More frenzied CSS contortions:-
+Adjust borders and margins into a 'theme consistent' appearance for Evince document viewer.
(Other apps subtly affected in a compliant way.)
Please be aware: The nature of this theme will readily show visual inconsistencies between applications.
Updates may appear at any time! :>)

New round of enhancements currently WIP:-
+Borders and UI surfaces (incl. child instances) will soon be utilizing
independent focused and backdrop colour states. Occasional apps won't
necessarily support this (or have bugs) even in GTK3.
GTK2 will be modified as best as possible to blend in.
+New funky companion theme variations will be included on next upload.
These will have colour accented borders for the focused state giving a 'Tron'
like appearance. Also, the theme background colour (not backdrop) will have a low level colour infusion to the normally black background surfaces on the focused window only (except for the Xfce desktop panels etc). Quite striking, not necessarily to all tastes. ;)
Summary:- Enhanced focus windows for existing theme. Additional themes twist added for fun. Also any little fixes/adjustments along the way.
ETA: As and when ever. :>

Working (hard) towards replacement of the pulled update.
LibreOffice 7 threw a spanner in the works (intolerant to scrolled window margin changes). Progressing steadily...

You're welcome and thanks for the idea. ;)
Never really considered purple before now. As an aside (for anyone else curious),
I attempted a red version of the theme but found it impossible to maintain the
characteristic look of the hover/prelight pix images. So no further plans for that now.

Thanks for your comments. :)
I have begun experimenting with the widget hue to see what works.
A quite deep (cardinal) purple nudging more towards Violet seems quite nice, but setting the brightness to get the best balance between effect and backlit readability of app buttons using black icon colouring is a consideration. I might tinker with a red option too..
In any case hue changes aren't always straightforward as weird artefacts can show. Stay tuned as they say. ;)

There is an issue, persistent across the updates. Some options are not visible(the font color remains dark), in programs such as Playonlinux. The line "install a non listed program" is invisible

Hi Bon,
You are correct I can confirm this. I also tried a number of other dark themes and the result is the same. The black text colour remains throughout any theme change selection. Themes tried were: Numix-BLACK-xxx, Marwaita Manjaro Dar, Arc-BLACK, black-MATE, Greybird Dark.
Additionally some the other parts of PoL look pretty awful to be honest.
If you can find a theme that changes that text colour let me know and I'll take a further look. PoL should make a more compliant GTK version I think.

MISSED ON THIS RELEASE: FIX SOUGHT!
Unfortunately because I use the Thunar location bar in toolbar (not path bar) mode,
I didn't notice that the toggle feature at the end of the path bar mode is a horridly long
button that looks a bit silly when hovered over. Will upload again when this is resolved one way or another. ;)

More frenzied CSS contortions:-

More fixes and adjustments 2 months ago

Ver 3.5
+ Xfce OSD notification borders restored after xfce4-notifyd upgrade from version 0.4x to 0.6x.
+ Panel drop down sub-menus: Corrected spacing (equidistance) of text/icons within menu borders.
+ Removed left/right padding on pop-over menus to align more consistently with the other menu types for hover/selected item.
+ Added '.primary-toolbar' to the toolbar section to fix gradient disruption noticed in latest Synaptic Package Manager toolbar layout. (Ver 0.84.6)
+ Added left & right borders to '.primary-toolbar' to bookend the main instance.
+ Minor menubar & toolbar padding/margin adjustments.
+ Minor rescaling of pulseaudio, notification and power plugins for Xfce panel.

Fix + Adjustments 4 months ago

Ver 3.4
+ Changed client side decoration (CSD) window buttons to '-scale(url('
to fix anomaly with native Chrome browser header/title bar.
+ Corrected 'text view' selected text background oversight, to provide a more obvious
selected background colour for highlighted document text searches.
Text entry field selected background colour remains transparent as intended.
+ Increased vertical padding for drop menu items (inc. popovers) by 2 pixels each,
for a less cramped look.

Ver 3.3 Xfce4.14 5 months ago

+ Added theme variant: Plasma Ultra - (Purple colour) *NEW!*
+ GTK3 tabs now filled using linear gradients (all variants). Pix images depreciated
due to not fully scaling to left and right tab inner edges.
+ Further gtkrc/gtk.css colour tweaks: Visited links to #a1a1a1 (Newly added for GTK2).
+ Border work-around added to gtk-widgets.css for odd 'ridge' and 'groove' colour mismatch
when testing with 'gtk3-widget-factory' application.

Ver 3.2 Xfce4.14 6 months ago

Ver 3.2 Adjustments:-
+ Inserted missing css for selected date background colour (Xfce panel calendar).
+ Flattened buttons (until checked) in Whisker Menu for a saner look.
+ OSD notifications updated (GTK3.20 syntax) for better integrated look:-
OSD progress bar (e.g. volume control) now matches theme.
OSD 1px border radius applied throughout to square off border corners as
much as possible. Junked old OSD entries.
+ Small colour adjusments to hover/prelight scrollbars.

Ver 3.1 Xfce4.14 6 months ago

Ver 3.1 Notable Adjustments:-
+ Improved path bar 'breadcrumbs' consistency across file managers
Caja, Nemo, Nautilus and Thunar. Small % reduction in font size.
+ Flattened the status bar where buttons exist, appearing only when
hovered over or active. Notable example being Gedit text editor.
+ Very small colour adjustment to the main orange hover/prelight buttons
and the orange and green highlighted/selected text colours.
+ Small spread Improvement to the GTK3 toolbar gradient.
+ Pop over menu hover/selected buttons now have extra padding at each
end to cover menu text and check/radio buttons more generously.

Ver 3.0 Xfce4.14 6 months ago

Fixes:
+ Misalignment of headerbar combobox drop down button corrected.
+ Conflicting check/radio states on popover menu corrected.
+ Pulseaudio horizontal slider button now correctly centred on trough for
Xfce panel plugin.

Enhancements:
+ Xfce calendar now has a header background image and date text is now more
readable overall.
+ GTK3 border brightness raised slightly from #202020 to #282828.
+ Coloured and desaturated (backdrop) images now replace the selected background
flat grey colour (#333333).
+ GTK 2* now has the same column header and selected background images as GTK3.
*Backdrop does not apply.
+ Selected background colours for both GTK2 & 3 now coloured to each variant.
############################################################################
# NOTE: Files and README included in each theme to revert back to grey #333333 selected #
# background if preferred. #
############################################################################
+ Slight margin adjustment and border added to the Xfce logout/shutdown dialog.
+ Kde colour scheme (intended only for Kdenlive) included with README file.

Ver 2.5 Xfce4.13x 1 year ago

* Reworked PulseAudio panel plug-in for a much more orderly and compliant layout.
* Above panel icon size (along with clipboard and power plug-in icons) slightly reduced (15% less).
* Switch widget reworked to give a less 'bloated' look.
NOTE: PulseAudio plug-in media buttons use the 'panel.png' image not the 'button-normal.png' image.
This is an accepted compromise stemming from parent panel settings. If the normal button images are wanted
then the main Xfce panel button must be changed to 'button-normal.png'. The media buttons can be hidden
for a cleaner more compact look. :)

Ver 2.4 Xfce4.13x optimisations 1 year ago

Panel applets appearance improved and more consistent with overall panel look.
NOTE1: Some panel applets are still GTK2 and some are GTK3. There are inherent colour
rendering differences between them leading to darker or lighter shades.
NOTE2: For best consistency, the theme's 'panel.png' image must still be selected manually via
the panel preferences for the background image.
The info-bar now has a coloured frame when active. Backdrop action button for info-bar now
correctly used (changed from 'button-normal.png').
GTK2 & 3 toolbars given a subtle gradient effect (reaction to Synaptic Package Manager GUI changes).

Ver 2.3b (corrected) 2 years ago

Update Correction 3: Firefox menu background fixed (again) added 'textview' & 'iconview' alongside all other 'views'.

1) Increased text brightness for backdrop state windows, closer to the focused state.<br />
2) Reworked check and radio items for better brightness consistency across states.<br />
3) Realignment of check and radio items across menus to reduce spacing inconsistences.<br />
4) Added extra colour definition for selected text highlighting. <br />
This now uses the main theme colour instead of greyshade.*<br />
5) Themed the gtk on/off switch and also the info-bar to blend better into the theme style.<br />
6) Improved various frames/separators to show panel sections more prominently.<br />
7) Reworked/optimised lightdm greeter theme for tidier parsing. Also increased opacity over-all.<br />
8) Fixed oddities -apparent in gedit- for header/title-bars and popovers. <br />
9) Reworked notebook tabs for better borders drawing.<br />
10) Added new desaturated active button and tab items when in backdrop state.<br />
11) Added some style fixes for firefox, e.g. menu colour and borders.<br />
12) Add colours application for gnome terminal.<br />
13) Added basic entries for gtk3 xfce4 panel.<br />
14) Added progress-bar size fixes for some xfce4 panel applets.<br />
15) Reduced scrollbar lengths to stop stepper button overlaps.<br />
16) Some padding and margin changes e.g. menubar spacing.<br />
<br />
Note: Main CSS file has been stripped down and hacked around a lot. Beware of sink holes!<br />
Improvement attempts for other bits will come when/if ever. ;-)<br />
*Some minor things still broken:<br />
Highlighted text doesn't work as expected in evolution, firefox and libreoffice, e.g. composer, searchbar.<br />
Scrollbar steppers borked in gtk3 libreoffice. Use gtk2 to work around.<br />
certainly other things too. :)

2.2 3 years ago

As of version 3.25.9x, Gnome-Evolution started displaying white borders around the search/toolbars.
Changing the colour definition: 'borders_color' to 'borders' throughout the gtk-contained-dark.css has fixed the issue.

2.1 3 years ago

ENHANCEMENTS: Search/spin button text entry areas restyled to integrate inside GTK3 header/title bars (see image #5) for unbroken visual continuity. This applies to all GTK3 applications proper. If user preferred, the V 2.0 css file is included as gtk-contained-dark-original.
FIXES: Level bar colours working correctly again on each variant (e.g. Baobab disk usage tool) and backdrop progress bar corrected on 'Fire' variant (now monochrome as intended). Returned to squared off (rectangle) style for progress bars due to scaling issues on LibreOffice (possibly others).

Ver 2.0 3 years ago

Discovered that GTK3 notebook tabs (left/right facing) were incorrect. Now fixed (hopefully).
Notebook tabs slightly reworked for better look between active and normal states and GTK2/GTK3.
Backdrop (unfocused) windows slider controls (hover/pre-light) now muted on mouse-over.

Ver 1.9 3 years ago

Reworked/styled spinner buttons/entry (separately for GTK2 & 3). Replaced arrow stepper items for GTK2 & 3 (same style). Added coloured borders to text/search entry (GTK3 only) and spinner items also. Replaced arrows in GTK2 to closely match GTK3. Fixed CSS errors preventing GTK3 backdrop changes from working (not seen with Debian!). Small tweaking of hover/prelight items for scrollbars and sliders. Borders/frames colour reduced (dimmed). Left, right and bottom active tabs now same as top active tab. Other things surely missed...
Note: Issue with widget hover function not working when running Evolution email via alltray utility is unresolved.

Small fix 18a 4 years ago

Fixed typo error at line 1140 in gtk-contained-dark.css
Fixed text brightness in lightdm-gtk-greeter.css
-------------------------------
Note: Still to come, border colour for Xfce4-notification pop up, when it works (GTK3 version) on Debian.
