Description:

as an uploader, i find it very irritating when people vote my uploads down without giving any reason.
i can understand some don't like my work but i have no idea how i could improve it.

i think it would be a good idea to remind people about commenting every time they vote anything bad.

an extreme (perhaps too extreme?) version would be not to let people vote down without providing a comment.

ps. please, don't vote this upload down without giving a reason...

I think often times people don't leave a comment because they have no idea how to improve the work, they just know they dislike it ...
An alternative would be to replace the up-down voting by a rating system, where a few criteria (up to three maybe?) could be rated from 1-5. This would in effect "force" the user to leave more detailed comments without having to write an essay.

yes..but if you MUST insert a comment..
we will be full of comment like "good"
"ok"..etc..
i don't know that can be exist a valid system-comments to satisfied all of us
i prefer a blank page instead 10 comments like show above..:)

yep, i'm afraid Divilinux is right about meaningless comments.

my dream system would be just simple points, 3 if you're registered, 2 if you're not, plus encouraging to comment when you vote down.

Yes, there should be a vote system that users MUST leave a comment of why he/she vote... is the only way we could decide/do or get better our work.
As we expent to much time for the community, we wish at least one minuteof "these" users to comment the "why" of your vote...

Cheers.

A reminder like it is shown in the "preview" is exactly what the voting system here is missing very badly. And as it is shown in the picture the reminder should be coupled with a comment box for the lazy ones who then don't have to click extra to comment (to overcome one's inhibitions). And of course a "maybe later" ;) button has to be added.

thanks for your support :)
but i'm afraid that basing on the rating i've got it looks like we're minority :/

I think a less intrusive (and easier) way to impliment it might be to change the "Thank you for your vote!" bit to a polite reminder.

of course, your way is much nicer but i'd fear it's just too polite. i mean, this very upload's been voted down a good deal of times, and not many reasons have been given, as you can see. i'm afraid people wouldn't even take the time to read it in most cases.

but people may not _want_ to comment or in a hurry, you would _force_ them?

Eg. I may think something is crock but dont want to say so in writing and possibly invite a flame from an irate contributor/fan. I think its good enough to let people vote anonymously.

1. forcing:
i said "perhaps too extreme". you're right, reminding would probably be enough.

2. flamewars etc.:
if it's just reminding, you'll still have a chance not to incite any.

3. anonimity:
i'm sorry but i think voting down anonymously just for the sake of anonymity is cowardry.

if users have the right to say they like sth or not by voting on it, i think the authors should have the right to know why their work is liked or not, too. after all it's them who'd spent a lot of time doing it.

i understand u
people are different..someone come here for curiosity..or just to download a good stuff
Don't give to much importance to the feature of vote..or the missed comment
see how many times people download your work^^

yeah, well. the funny thing is that this very upload got quite a few votes down, and you're the only one to have commented it. thanks for that :)
it's like some journalist in the usa once wrote an article saying the americans sue one another for just about everything. as you may be guessing, he got sued by over a dozen of people...
