First it takes a long time to connect to the website where the link to Mandrake RPM is.
Then when i select the link, i always have the message:
"host narcis.tesa.ro unknown"

I use kxdocker 0.11 instead of kicker.
For me it's ok, the only problem is that it's too memory-consuming.
After load it eats 37MB of RAM... I don't know how to reduce the amount of memory needed from this software.

Its not buggy but has no mutch grafical effects.

Run very more better and has all functionalities you want.

I'm not gonna bother e-mailing you again because that seems to have done nothing
I'll just point out that any version since 0.9 crashes when you click the bar more than twice in a short time span, or more specifically before the icon refreshes from your last click.

Hi, I was using osxbar with superkaramba... but I had problems with "redhat" python...
This port in C++ is a great idea!
The zoom is very smooth, I experienced problems only if my desktop background is a "solid color", in this case I have icons-shading.

I have also two proposals:

1. to put an "auto hide" feature like the original kicker (so I could use all the screen resolution when I need it...)
2. to create (in the future) something like a "wizard" to add new icons and launchers on the bar (like kicker) or a beautiful drag & drop.

With this two feautres kxdocker could replace the kicker without problems!!!

A very great Work! Compliments!

It's a real good work, but I experience one problem: after moving the mouse out of the bar zone, there are shades of the icons on their sides. How can remove this?

Once again, you saved the day. I added the .kde path a amazingly everything started working. Thanks for the quick reply, but shouldn't you be sleep!

First let me say that this is definitely heading in the right direction. Your doing an incredible Job Stephano!

Now, on to the good stuff! Here are a couple of things that I have observed while using the application.

1. If I exit the dock via the left or right edge, the dock resizes itself very quickly. However, if I exit the dock via its top edge, the dock takes a while to resize itself.

2. For some reason, since version 2, I haven't been able to get the dock to use the background images I have stored in my home directory. In my xml configuration file I have the following lines:

_BackgroundPath="/home/guppetto/kxdocker/themes/bar/default" _BackgroundPath="/home/guppetto/kxdocker/themes/bar/orange_round/" PillowPath="/home/guppetto/kxdocker/themes/pillow/default" PoofPath="/home/guppetto/kxdocker/themes/poof"

Tiled="0"

imgBackgroundCenter="background-center.png"
imgBackgroundLeft="background-left.png"
imgBackgroundOver="background-over.png"
imgBackgroundRight="background-right.png"

The pillow background and the poofs work perfectly, but the dock always loads with no background image.

If anyone can point out my error, it would be greatly appreciated! I have all three bar themes located my

/home/guppetto/kxdocker/themes/bar/

folder.

I was able to load my own background images by placing them in this directory:

$HOME/.kde/share/apps/kxdocker/themes/bar/default

Or you can have many bar themes in that directory and just link the one you wanna use to default.

Hope this helps.

the old osxbar was better imho... kxdocker doesn't correctly redraw the bar and the icons. I get lots of artefacts of zoomed icons. I tried compiling with the CXXFLAGS as well as without them. Didn't change anything except the speed... I hope it gets better over time.

this is great, it works great, scrolls smoothly, is a little slow to respond when you move the mouse over it but other than that is awsome
except for one problem.. it seems to freeze every like third time opening, it doesnt return any errors, just stops responding..

Report

hmm.. nevermind
i just saw:

If you feel freezes or slow while moving mouse, try this BEFORE COMPILE it:

export CXXFLAGS=" $CXXFLAGS -DENABLE_REPAINT "

on the homepage..
i'll try that

Report

I tried setting the line mentioned above before compiling and before running kxdocker, and it still periodically freezes on startup. I still can't figure out why, which is a shame cause I'd really rather be using this bar, but if i cant fix this then im gonna have to stop using it..

Hi,
This program is very much better than the ksmoothy,as I have used(tried)all the versions of both the programs.
Here it is fast with or without extra flags.
ksmoothy was always buggy to me,background update was not ok ..etc. It was nowhere near the kxdocker featurewise.
As for editing XML files author have promised to do it when he finds time.
Now I think he is trying to complete the basic featureset.Let him take his own time and do it.If I could do some c++ I would have definitely helped him.
Pls avoid flaming him... we are going in the path of mosfet...flow...
I personally thank the author for sharing this wonderful program with the community.

Thank you very much Stefano !

But very slow (on my P4 2.66ghz! Come on!) and no dual-monitor support. KSmoothDock I think was a better attempt at this, but neither have really been developed to any maturity yet..

I hope this becomes usable in future versions though, lots of potential.

Did you use the compile flags suggested by Stefano (see his description of the project above) before compiling?

It works well here on an AMD2600+ w/512 MB RAM, and on a PIII 600Mhz laptop w/256 MB RAM.

I did use the compile flags, and although this did massively speed things up compared to without them, it still wasn't particularly fast and also, exiting the mouse-over area means the bar has to complete its animation before you can re-enter. Also, the background behind the bar doesn't get updated correctly and once the animation has finished, causes the application behind (at least gtk2 apps) to flicker redrawing - I'd much prefer something like ksmoothdock, but with an auto-hide option. No matter what compile options, kxdocker is nowhere near as smooth as ksmoothdock and I much prefer ksmoothdock's more subtle effect. Not to say that this shouldn't continue, it's just my personal opinion.

Also, no Xinerama support makes it unusable for me anyway :(
