Description:

A Redmond Win9x clone

New in version 1.95:
Fixed border colors in system tray borders, adjusted clock padding.
Added experimental "Luna" theme.

Please read:

Download Redmond97.tar.gz unless you have disabled CSD decorations.
For those who disabled CSD decorations use the Redmond97-nocsd.tar.gz package instead.

-Install: extract Redmond97.tar.gz into your themes directory.
-(legacy)Howto fix borders in Xfce4 system tray: disable "show frame" and enable "square icons" notification tray options.

To get gradient titlebars in Xfce4 I recommend using marco window manager which is included with MATE desktop.
To select marco themes in Xfce4: gsettings set org.mate.Marco.general theme "Redmond97"

-To use the Firefox theme (IE_classic_firefox.tar.gz):
1. Extract the chrome folder from one of the IE themes in the Redmond_firefox.tar.gz archive to your Firefox profile directoy (eg ~/.mozilla/firefox/user.default/)
[ If you have not enabled custom user style sheets eg userchrome: ]
2. Navigate to "about:config" in Firefox
3. Enter the following text in the search box: toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets
4. Set the option toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets to True
5. Close all instances of Firefox and the changes will take effect when you restart Firefox.
Note: If you are not running Firefox Quantum 75 or above please use the package "firefox-old.tar.gz"
6. Enable title bars in the Firefox customization page.

Known issues:
-The Firefox themes are currently colored for the default Redmond color scheme.
-If you don't uncheck the "show frame" option for the notification tray the borders will be misaligned.
Last changelog:

1.8 1 year ago

Added support for GTK3 client side decorations for those not using gtk-nocsd or GTK3-classic.
To use the version with support for CSD, download the Redmond97-CSD package.
-CSD windows include shadows to match non gtk-csd applications.
-Updated hamburger menu styles.
-Fixed combobox buttons in editor toolbars used in Evolution and Abiword.

Thanks for the feedback. To get the classic taskbar / start menu you'll need to install Xfce4 desktop. This tutorial gives a nice step by step howto on installing and using Xfce on Ubuntu: https://itsfoss.com/install-xfce-desktop-xubuntu/. Hope this helps.

I am using Gnome desktop and was able to acheive the same look using the following extensions; Dash to Panel, ArcMenu and Taskbar 2020. Worked perfectly and very customizable. Thanks again!

9 Hi, thank you for this great theme! Good job!

1. How to delete this top border when window maximize?
https://i.imgur.com/4p3fZEL.jpg
That it looks in Windows:
https://i.imgur.com/haWJCXI.jpg

2. How to make this area working for mouse coursor?
https://i.imgur.com/1N4KypR.jpg

I was trying to edit some theme styles to do those above settings, but I couldn't find which one is for.

Why is this important? Because let you to quick operate on open windows - for example when you want to close maximized window, just move coursor to top-right corner and click - don't need to precise point to "X" button. The same is with "Start" button.

Solved. All above issues don't occur on 18.04 Xubuntu distro with xfce GTK2. Maximized titlebar mus be edit in metacity to change font size and top border. All 20.04 distros have panel bottom border and doesn't working hack with clock and notification area.

7 libgtk 3.24.24, gnome-shell 3.38.3, libmutter 3.38.3

It's an interesting pack! The CSD window borders are nearly perfect, which is impressive. I wish there was a Solaris/CDE theme that got the borders bezel effect right like this one does.

- Window buttons seem too small with large fonts
- In (GNOME with lib)mutter, non-CSD windows don't have any "resize bezels" (sure they're just cosmetic, but even so it's inconsistent). There's a few 1px shadow gaps too.
- Would it be possible to hide the inside bezel around widgets for fullscreen windows?

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad someone tried this with gnome-shell / mutter as I only have Xfce installed on my system it sounds like it might be promising to make this work with gnome. I'm currently working on making the window buttons scalable to they will increase in size with larger fonts. I could look into removing bezels when in fullscreen it may be a limitation but I'll take a look and see if it's possible.

Awesome news, and thanks for keeping this theme updated! I would recommend running a GNOME-bearing OS in a virtual machine if you want to keep your normal desktop clean. gnome-boxes is probably the least fuss virtualization app these days.

I should add that I tried Redmond97.tar.gz because of course you don't really do the nocsd thing in gnome.

FYI, I'm rolling with Debian Testing (the future Debian 11).

I love this theme! I'm nostalgic, and I really enjoy using Xubuntu with the Redmond theme... I was sad when the "xfwm4-themes" package was discontinued, because it had a redmond...

Until I found this "Redmond97" theme on xfce-look! :)

Thank you very much for creating this theme, and congratulations for the good job!
