Description:

Nocturnal, a GTK, xfwm4, openbox-3, and GNOME-Shell - Dark Mode Theme.

Tested for thousands of hours by serious coders - yielding extra-long hours of computer work, without any eyestrain.

Nocturnal, for GTK, is the highly anticipated, and already highly-valued, color scheme for code editors, students, and those with light sensitivity issues.

Delivering a brand new GTK, xfwm4, openbox-3, and GNOME-Shell dark-mode-scheme, this GUI-centric theme strictly adheres to hues proven to sooth hardworking eyes. Coders and GUI users, alike, are finding out that - once you try Nocturnal - it is hard to go back to anything else.

Nocturnal is designed for use with terminal and gui applications. It has several unique properties. The rtl88-Themes team designed this colorscheme with both precise CIELAB lightness relationships and a refined set of hues based on fixed color wheel relationships. It has been tested extensively in real world use on color calibrated displays (as well as uncalibrated/intentionally miscalibrated displays) and in a variety of lighting conditions.

The GTK, xfwm4, openbox-3, and GNOME-Shell theme represents a careful blending of Arc elements.

Manual Installation Is Easy: 1) Extract the "tar.xz" file into your "~/.themes/" folder - to install for current user only - or into the "/usr/share/themes/" folder - for the theme to be applied globally. 2) Use the GNOME Tweak Tool or an equivalent app to enable it for your desktop.

Logging out and then logging back in may be necessary on some operating systems, to fully implement themes.

The standard flavor variant received modifications. Here, the GS app-view-control's hover element had it's background color opacity increased. The outcome yields better elemental differentiation, and thus, better readability. Commit: 755011

10 This is such a beautiful theme, as are other themes by you. Would it be possible for you to make these themes available as a package/packages for Arch Linux?

Thanks for the rating and input! They already do have people over there who package up and maintain a few of our themes for their repos, such as Arc-Icons. This one is so new, still, but I cannot see a big prob having someone at Arch do that for users. Look into who handels that for your particular distro needs. Get back with me if you strike out. Best, Randall Lewis

I have no prior experience whatsoever, but I've decided to create a package for this particular theme myself with guidance from some very helpful people. If everything goes well, I should be able to submit it to the AUR in near future.

Linux is great for bringing out things in us we never knew we had. I'm proud of you! for what you've got going there. Let us know how the progress is going.

I've created the PKGBUILD file for the theme, but I was wondering what license and dependencies I should put in it, if any.

Cool!

It seems like on AUR packages that Dependencies could be:
1. Nocturnal (Nocturnal-git), 2. git (git-git) (make), 3. [to mention, if a user doesn't already have it installed] gtk2-engine-murrine.

I'm not an Arch guy (an openSUSE guy ) so double check

I finally submitted the package to the AUR. Please let me know if any changes are to be made. The package is available at https://aur.archlinux.org/nocturnal-themes-git.git

Congrats!! I don't currently use archlinux; but I'll check with a team member or tester. If you can download and install the same working product as we offer on this site, via the AUR - your fine. I just updated the theme, here. Best of Luck!

Thanks. The package has been working fine and I make sure to check your Github page regularly for updates. The only problem is the repo's huge download size. It would be great if that could be resolved somehow.

No, they're just props we make for the screenshots. If you want a copy, we actually do make the full set for those props. Let me know.
