Smooth Tasks

Plasma 4 Extensions by panzi 840 comments

I haven't tried Smooth Tasks yet, so this feature might already be implemented. However, it doesn't hurt to ask:

In STasks, when sorting by desktop, it does a second sort alphabetically. I don't like when tasks jump around when I change tabs, for example.

Would it be possible to disable this second level sort and only show the tasks in the order they appear when "Sort by: Desktop" in chosen?

Keep up the good work! - Oct 13 2009

Thanks for your reply. I have no clue how the URL works, but I'll mail SL and see if they want to share the answer.

There were some Mac OS X widgets floating around, but (a) neither seems to work "perfectly" and (b) they don't seem to use the new function. I'll post again if I find something out.

Hi,

Could you please add Stockholm Local Transport (SL) to the list? Their departure board for buses is still under testing, but seems to work well for me.

Website
http://realtid.sl.se/

Stop Names
Stora Lappkärrsberget
Universitetet södra
Universitetet (T-banan)
Liljeholmen

Parenthesis
This is only for buses :/, for other types see http://sl.se/templates/RealTimePage.aspx

Blåbuss = Blue buss (also listed on the first page)
Pendeltåg = Commuter train
Roslagsbanan = A railway line
Tunnelbana = Metro (green, red, blue)

Hopefully they'll expand the first site to include these. - Jul 04 2009

Thank you very much. I always have my desktop locked, so this is much appreciated!

Another feature I would like to see is regarding the sound: now it plays it (if you've enabled sound) regardless if the activity is active or not. I would like bkodama to not play a sound if the activity where it belongs is inactive. However, I don't know if it's possible with Plasma. - Jun 10 2009

Device Manager

Plasma 4 Extensions by giucam 174 comments

Very cool, finally a device manager that resembles a mockup I made years ago. :)

Judging from your description/screenshot (I haven't tried the plasmoid yet), I miss the following features:

1. Option to expand/contract actions (think "treeview").
2. Option to not show the popup when a device is inserted. Instead the icon should show that the device has been plugged in (e.g. by flashing/changing color).
3. Option to not show "Storage Volume".
4. Option to not show actions (contracted by default). However, the actions for the latest plugged in device should be shown. (Of course you can show/hide actions for all devices).

Uuh, lots of options. :D
And a last one:
5. Option to let the popup grow instead of showing a scrollbar (not sure about this one).

Keep up the good work! - Jun 06 2009

I use Yakuake + irssi as an IRC client, which works very well. In KDE3, I had Yakuake beep every time someone highlighted me. In KDE4, however, Konsole doesn't support system bell anymore (bleh).

My question is, is it possible set Yakuake to make some other kind of noise when the Bell (^G) rings? It doesn't seem to follow Konsole's notification settings. - Jun 02 2009

Very nice plasmoid. Just two things:

1. It seems the widget doesn't remember its size. Is it because I use KDE from trunk or can anyone else reproduce this? (Resize, restart Plasma).

2. It looks a little bit "messy" at the moment. Clearer rows/columns would be nice. - Nov 25 2008

"Click and drag the titlebar of a maximized window in the direction of the screen you want to move the window to, release the mouse button to make it snap in place on that screen. Currently in KDE, you have to spend a few seconds on properly aligning the window on the screen you moved it to."

+1. That's the feature I miss most at the moment.
I think this should be enabled even if you have unchecked "Allow moving and resizing of maximized windows".

I haven't tried the patch, but I wonder if it's possible to specify which screen an applications should appear on in "Window-Specific Settings"? I know it's possible with "Position", but still not perfect. - Aug 17 2007

A search on google didn't help; does anyone have a hint on how to solve this problem?

Strigi

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by oever 126 comments

So I compiled CLucene and Strigi from source, seemed to work after fixing the paths to /usr. Running "strigidaemon" in a terminal doesn't show any nasty error messages of any sort - great.

But now I wonder how I can use it. My Qt version is 3.3.8 (default package from Slackware 12.0), and I don't plan to install Qt4 - so StrigiApplet is preferable, right?

I just don't understand how to install it. I haven't found any Slackware packages, so I downloaded the source and followed the guide in the README:
Quote:mkdir build
cd build
export QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt3
cmake -DCMAKE_INCLUDE_PATH=${HOME}/testinstall/include \
-DCMAKE_LIBRARY_PATH=${HOME}/testinstall/lib \
-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=${HOME}/testinstall ..
Then I ran make and make install. No errors, but can't find it among my Kicker applets. Should I edit the paths?

As I'm not used to cmake, I tried to compile from svn (also described in README). I added --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` to the ./configure, and then make and make install. No problems, but still can't find any applets (doesn't work in Konqueror either).

I'm confused; if anyone can point me to the right direction, I would be very happy. Thanks in advance! - Jul 31 2007

>> The old Katapult and this fork don't detect changes to the menu made when Katapult is running. The work around is to go to the settings dialog and press ok.

I know this "problem", but I've restarted Katapult FT many times and it still doesn't find the items, which aren't newly added (they've been there for a year or more I believe). So it's really strange. I'll try the old version of Katapult again when I get back to my Linux box to see if there are many more differences.

>> Btw, fixed real transparency support. Will be adding it, along with bugfixes, within the week. Stay tuned. :)

If you can enable/disable real transparency at runtime, it would be very nice. I've disabled composite at the moment (crashed sometimes), so unfortunately I can't use real transparency.

One thing I would like to see for the Amarok Catalog is a small notice when you queue a track; most of the time Amarok is in my system tray, so I can't see if it really got queued. Maybe you could use the Amarok OSD, it shouldn't be too hard with DCOP, is it? A option to turn this on/off would be great too ;)

Finally, a question: is there any ETA for when the IM Catalog will be "finished" (as in usable)? At the moment it doesn't seem to return anything.

I've found two other kmenu item Katapult can't find: "SVN", which updates Amarok. I added this item using the Menu Editor; "New Item" and then filled all the information by myself.

The Supertux item was added by klik I think. There is another application that I've installed with klik (it's called Tsfsb, don't ask me what it is), Katapult can't find it either.

I've executed both Supertux and SVN with the old version of Katapult. It doesn't seem to ignore them - no complain about duplicated related to these items when I start Katapult. - Jun 26 2007

I had some troubles with the Global Shortcut to show the launcher, but I've had it before too; it just didn't save my shortcut if I set it to alt+space. I had to set alt+space for both "Primary shortcut" and "Alternative shortcut" to make it work.

Another thing: before, I could type names of items in my K Menu, but not Katapult doesn't show them all. For example, it doesn't show Supertux which I've installed with Klik. It's located in Kmenu->Applications->Applications (installed by klik)->Supertux.

A final not, the "Clear the query after a delay" (When there's no results) doesn't seem to work as expected. Sometimes it just doesn't do anything when I've type something that doesn't return any results.

Hope I didn't sound too negative, if you want more information just ask. :) - Jun 25 2007

Thank you for your fast answer. That did the trick, it seems work very well now. I really like the improvements, exactly what I missed in Katapult!

Just curious, does the IM catalog work? I would really like to see such a feature.

An idea that popped up in my head; a Basket Catalog. I'm not sure it's a good idea yet, but why not share it? Basically, a Basket Catalog to add whatever you've written to your Basket: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/BasKet+Note+Pads?content=10020
Is there any faster way to jot down quick notes? :)
You probably want to set the Number of characters to a higher number for this Catalog. It would also be great with a priority feature.
