i love the gtk way of doing things so please make it optional, thanks - Mar 24 2009
Any chance of integrating with xbar from bspin to give a universal menubar? - Mar 24 2009
Any chance of making dolphin's address bar like gtk2's address bars, the ones in file open/save dialogues?

With those i know exactly where the boundary is and which area i have to hit, with the way it is now i'm aiming for text, but text is too thin so i aim near the text and finally the mouseover shows up and shows how big the click area really is. I hate it like this, i want it like this:

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4452/image2607.png - Mar 23 2009
Line 6845 (according to kwrite)

Quote:
case CT_MenuBarItem:
if (!size.isEmpty())
newSize=size+QSize((windowsItemHMargin * 4)+2, windowsItemVMargin+1);
break;

adding +1 to the vertical height made kde3,kde4 and gkt2 apps have the same height, and the +2 on the horizontal gave the same spacing between menuitems in kde3 and kde4 apps.

but how can i increase the spacing between menuitems in gtk2 apps?:

http://img27.imageshack.us/my.php?image=windowborder16.png - Mar 22 2009
(kde4) The Dropdown looks like its placed wrong:

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2577/toolbarrendering29.png

Anyone think the selected items would look better this way:

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2963/toolbarrendering30.png

without the gap between the menu item and the border of the dropdown - Mar 18 2009
It looks better after editing .gtkrc-2.0

With this gtk list headers match the height of the list headers in kde4, generally its a lot better

*probably has side effects but haven't noticed anything yet* - Mar 17 2009
There is a gap between the buttons which shows what is behind it:

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/9104/toolbarrendering26.png - Mar 17 2009
The listview heights are different in gtk2,kde4 and kde3, kde3 has the best height:

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/1292/listviewsandmenubar.png

and the menubar heights are also different, kde4 has a thinner menubar, but i think the menubar height of kde3 is better

In general kde3 seems to scale down well to fit smaller fonts
- Mar 17 2009
Will that fix this?:

http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4746/toolbarrendering19.png

The kde3 apps (kcontrol) have thicker menubars, by 2 px than kde4 apps (kwrite) - Mar 16 2009
+1 for custom menubar height

I can confirm that kde3's menubar is smaller than gtk2 and kde4 menubars, kde4 and gtk2 menubars are the same height, Which is strange, it used to be that kde3/4 had the same height and gtk2 was the odd one out. - Mar 14 2009
Can't the slider cover the button like in kde3/4? - Mar 13 2009
Try launching openoffice with:

OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome soffice

For me this fixes the menubar background (i use a flat colour). ooo doesn't seem to obey the custom menubar text colour. Setting it to gnome will also slightly mess up the alignment of text in widgets (there appears to be much less space between the text and the left edge) but on the whole its better than kde. - Mar 13 2009
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6255/image2551j.png

When the scrollbar slider is at the top or the bottom of the slider the end of the slider is missing or covered by the buttons. - Mar 13 2009
KDE3 uses 'General > Sunken Gradient' to draw the slider rail, but gtk2 and kde4 use Sliders and 'Scrollbars > Groove appearance'

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2966/toolbarrendering13.png - Mar 13 2009
It seems to happen on all sliders, even with non 0 values, juk and filelight:

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/43/toolbarrendering12.png - Mar 12 2009
I thought the file might be bad so i recreated it with the new configuration dialogue, here it is:

The progress bar is broken in a different way and the custom sunken gradient is used in the slider groove in kde3:

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2292/toolbarrendering10.png

Also when 'Advanced Settings > Use blended background/highlight color for highlight of inactive elements' is used the capacity bar in the bottom right corner of dolphin changes from 'selection text' colour to 'window text' colour when the window goes from active to inactive

Also the configure button and the combobox in the screenshot have different heights kde3, could it be made the same? i prefer the thinner kde3 dropdown size, as a global height, the configure button looks too big for the text it has
- Mar 12 2009
since qtcurve is the style in gtk, qt3 and qt4 apps wouldn't it be easy to implement a universal menubar in qtcurve? (with a blacklist for some apps) - Mar 12 2009
Also kde3 apps have a nice header similar to the button appearance at the top of their system tray right click menus - Mar 12 2009
The issue is with qtcurve, the custom menu colours are being used for the inactive menu items in gtk2 apps.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9947/toolbarrendering8.png - Mar 11 2009
While trying other custom shades i saw this:

http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3197/toolbarrendering6.png

To reporduce, open kcontrol, configure qtcurve with a high or low custom shade 2, something easy to see like 1.50, press ok to save and exit, then pick another widget style (no need to apply) then pick qtcurve again so the scrollbar gets redrawn, then you see it. - Mar 11 2009
How can i set the inactive text colour of gtk menus? where is the colour from? buttons and things now match kde3/4 but the menu colour is white on white.

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3227/toolbarrendering5.png

the ComboBoxEntry, GtkCombo and GtkEntry widgets look sunken when the shadowed setting was used.

Also the progress bar in kde3 doesn't show stripes, neither diagonal or perpendicular, the custom shade is enabled (0.95) but doesn't seem to be working - Mar 11 2009
Ah yea, qt got upgraded from 4.5.0~rc1-2 to 4.5.0-1, didn't think it would cause such a difference - Mar 10 2009
http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/6743/rect2470.png

the 96-100% region of custom gradients do not show in toolbars in kde3, its similar on buttons and dropdowns, dropdowns show less, probably because their thinner.

this screenshot shows the difference in the config dialogues of kde3 and 4:

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3769/toolbarrendering1.png

Is it possible to make gtk tabs thinner with a line in gtkrc-2.0? maybe decrease the gap between the icon+text and the top and bottom edges of tabs and create a gap between the toolbar and the tab - Mar 10 2009
after upgrading to 4:4.2.1-1 i noticed that tabs are broken. The bug can be seen in Dolphin, konqueror, kmail and system settings.

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5020/k4tabs.png - Mar 10 2009
try

sudo checkinstall --pkgname --pkgversion --pkgrelease --default --nodoc --provides

sudo checkinstall --pkgname qtcurve-kde4 --pkgversion 0.61 --pkgrelease 4 --default --nodoc --provides qtcurve-kde4 --maintainer=`grep $USER /etc/passwd | awk -F: '{print $5}'`

or sudo checkinstall -D and provide the info, it'll install it and make a .deb file you can install later

Its useful to make a script out of it - Mar 08 2009
I wrote on the screenshots so its clear what i'm referring to:

http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/6529/rect12452.png

the tabs look like that in other apps like gedit - Mar 06 2009
Can the checkmarks also have the little dot removed, on a light background it looks good, but on a dark background with a light checkmark colour it looks strange:

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2206/s07.png - Mar 06 2009
It is possible, Domino 0.4 allows custom tooltip colours.

after domino is configured you need to restart the app (juk) for the tooltip colour to apply, just switching to another theme and back to domino didn't change the colours - Mar 06 2009
The hyperlink colour defined in kcontrol is not correctly applied to kde3 apps:

plastic: http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/4687/s05.png
qtcurve: http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/8274/s06.png

Also the close button for tabs in konversation drops out of the tab bar.

Also could you make kde3 apps use the tooltip colours from kde4 or if its limited to the kde3 colour scheme then use the titlebar background and titlebar background text colours. - Mar 05 2009
I found that the Mist and Forbidden gtk2 themes don't have a text shadow

Forbidden:
http://www.suse-art.org/content/show.php/Forbidden?content=95303 - Mar 03 2009
Could be related to

0.61.0
...
10. Gtk2 - If KDE_SESSION_VERSION is not set, default to reading KDE4 settings.
...

I still think its caused by systemsettings > Appearance > Colours > Options[tab] > Apply colours to non-kde4 applications

enabling that messes with kdesu colours, might also have to disable that in kcontrol kde3

(its not needed with qtcurve) - Mar 03 2009
Hi, the colour value marker should be the same colour as the triangle of the dropdown menus:

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/8922/s11k.png

Also the inactive text on gtk buttons look bad with a dark background, is the option to change this already there?

http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/5389/s14.png - Mar 02 2009
Toolbuttons have a different mouseover text colour and the line issue is there, but the spacing between the text the line varies in different groupboxes, wouldn't it be easier to fill the background of a groupbox with a a darker or lighter shade of the background colour? because of nested group boxes?

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9666/s08.png - Mar 01 2009
Have you tried using a different fonts and font sizes? the text being cut off mid letter could be a font issue. - Feb 27 2009

Its fine now, i switched to crystal and back and the sizes are fine:

Very strange, the preview is correct but the window is wrong

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/7149/windowborder37.png - Mar 24 2009
There is a strange space between the menu and leftTitleBg, the right side of the icon should be the same as the left:

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9374/windowborder30.png

Also when making themes should one aim to go with big png images which wouldn't require much tiling or 1px high/wide images which are tiled all the way along for best performance? - Mar 24 2009
Using no border with dekorator causes kwin to crash, it works worked fine with crystal.

Alt+f3 > Advanced > No Border = kwin crash - Mar 22 2009
I'm just wondering, is it intended that packages need to be extracted to a folder named Name-theme? and then it shows up as Name-theme in the config dialogue, Most themes don't extract as name-theme so even though the install seems to go fine the theme doesn't show up - Mar 22 2009

Thanks that fixed it, now maximised windows have no border or rounding, I enabled it so i could resize out of being maximised with shortcut keys, win+right mouse button movement, irritating since there is no win+middle=maximise/restore in kde 4.2.1 - Mar 21 2009
Ok i found out that shadows are being reworked for 4.3 so they should be better - Mar 21 2009
Wishlist:

* No left, right or bottom borders when maximised
* No rounding when maximised
* Custom Roundedness
* Shadows without desktop effects being enabled in kde4

This is what it would look like:

This is probably how i will configure things to look like:
