I say little more - although kate is my preffered editor (there is mcedit on the second place), many people use ViM (kvim), xedit etc. So any human can write own *.desktop file and place it where he needs. A lot of articles on kde.org written about it. But all you need is to automatize this process: right-clicking on file (eg /usr/local/bin/mplayer) -> "add to menu 'open with'" or "add to menu 'open with' for chosen mime types". As i know, last way is officially realized in /usr/lib/menu/* or /etc/menu/* files... - Oct 25 2004

Standard disclaimer: sorry for my bad English.
I think that any user must be able to write his own UI file in QT Designer. And this user... not must know anything about slots, signals etc (do you understand me?). - Oct 20 2004
