A very nice set, but unfortunately they're absolutely impossible to see on a non-white background. Any chance you could add a white border? - Mar 09 2008

These wallpapers are all amazing! How do you make these? I mean, I assume you start with a photograph, then you fire up the GIMP... and then what do you do there? - Dec 25 2007

I figured out your problem. The package names conflicted with each other, so when you removed the first kitty and installed the second without clearing the cache, ksplash got confused and weird things happened. My above instructions should solve your problem, and I updated the packages with different names to ensure this no longer happens. Sorry for the inconvenience! - Aug 11 2006
Try this:

$ rm -r ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/cache
(Will clear the cached versions of your splashes)

$ rm -r ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/kitty*
(Will delete this splash if it is installed only for you)

# rm -r /usr/share/apps/ksplash/Themes/kitty*
(Will delete this splash if it is installed system-wide)

Then download the one you want again to /tmp, open kcontrol and go Appearance and Themes -> Splash Screen, click Add and point it to the .tar.gz archive you just downloaded into /tmp (you don't have to extract it). These aren't magic instructions, just a thorough clean and reinstall, based on the fact that the files here work for me. You will probably get "No such file or directory" errors for some of them; that's fine. Let me know how it goes. Make sure you download the files again, because I was messing with the packages a few days ago and you might have downloaded them in the few minutes that a broken version was up. - Aug 11 2006
What version of Moodin are you using? How did you install the theme? The files differ only by image order and a line in the configuration file; they can't yield such different results. Something weird is going on. - Aug 10 2006

You can fix that very easily. All you need to do is erase the snake skin around the eye in image 8 and make it transparent instead. Here:

Here, this was on my old box. I updated it to include the new "Welcome to KDE 3" background posted above on the thread - the old one is still in the package if you want it.

(Anyone willing to mirror this?) - Aug 07 2006
