kbfx Transitor theme - with EXTRA candy

Various Stuff by xvicx 6 comments

I like... the look reminds me of the default skin for Quintessential (TM). I think if thats what you are after -- a ´skin´ for kbfx then you are onto something really big. Can you make it possible to easily skin the applet? Would it be possible to skin using xHTML/CSS and Javascript? Great work! - Aug 01 2005

Seriously now -- can you make the text shadow less distant or better make it a thin dark gray? That is enough to convey the feeling of depth but not enough to think its another line of copy

Please provide .png files too, so other people who dont necessarily have Mdv, can still enjoy your button -- its also easier to install by just dragging and dropping the image on top the kbfx button. - Jul 28 2005

This guy came out of nowhere on 2 june 05 to release kbfx (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=24898) and its taken off like wild-fire, some KDE-Look users even complain to see so many kbfx's they wanted a new group for it so they can see again the things they like.

And the maintainers of klaunch finally woke from their sleep and began working on it again, I guess the competition was smokin'

This is great stuff! I think it would be great if someone iterviewd the dev and published as a feature... - Jul 28 2005

My Kate v2.3.2 has tabs across the top, I think it comes as a plug-in and has being around for a while now. And have you tried Kate in IDEAL mode? That is just the coolest thing! Or did you mean Kate cant place its tabs where you wanted them to be? I use only TextPad in my day job -- which I really admire and it can place its document lists as Top tabs, Bottom tabs and in the sidebar (Kate default behaviour). Is that what you meant? - Jul 24 2005

KLaunch2 - kbfx button

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by maarizwan 21 comments

After installing kbfx yours was the button I selected by default. I had to edit your image to place it on a transparent background, that way it will blend better on any background I am then using. Another thing... something is going on that puts a thick right padding on the kbfx button, so I cant move any taskbar icons up next to it. - Jun 12 2005

kbfx works for me on my Mandriva LE 2005 system. I preferred the klaunch.png and thats what I am using. Issues? There seems to be a tad too much space to the right of this button. There seems to be more latency on this applet, the main menu takes longer to appear compared to when I use the regular KMenu button? Thanks, Peter - Jun 11 2005
KDE 4.0 where to go

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by borisb 13 comments

I mean I absolutely believe KDE-ites can and should take pride in the super-human achievement of equaling and sometimes surpassing both WinXP and Max Os/X. Yet it is an undeniable fact those two proprietory OSs are still almost unassailable from a design point of view because of the huge investments made in usability. Its why KDE ppl keep harping on about ...do it just like {blank} OS. I hope you Devs and Designers (Dess? to coin a word) out there understand its not that KDE-ites still love their legacy OS... they just want KDE to have the_same_usability. So its regrettable but we will be hearing those words for a long while to come. - Jun 11 2005

I run Mandriva linux LE 2005 and while kbfx compiles and installs just fine, it instantly crashes when I add it to my taskbar. Everytime! If you want the trace I will send it -- instead of cluttering this space. I really want to try this and so want a bigger menu button.Oh! You should make it capable of accepting special key designations such as the win key... very ironic ;) - Jun 06 2005

The License is GPL so in my uneducated opinion you are safe to make changes as you see fit. And besides you did the decent thing acknowledging whom you could, thank you! I dont think GPL is an appropriate licence for simple art work -- Creative Commons may work better here? In any case there is no simple way to incorporate Licence text in a pixel map, is there? - May 04 2005

I wanted this for my desktop but previously this art was designed for other distros.

So I took your work, removed the lantern and replaced 'Mandrake' with 'Mandriva' and voila! Now I have Superkaramba/fantastik on my desktop roughly in the same place you had your lantern.

Pretty cool -- I need to go look at Juk!

Curious... how did you prepare the flash movie, what linux tool lets you do that kind of thing?

It looks very promising to me, I like the novelty of this interface to a database. Thats the thing that is so great about the GPL/Open Source, there is so much creativity and innovation that is unleashed when people are FREE in the software sense

In Knemo's configuration dialog are prompts for custom context menu commands-- which I immediately mistook to mean Knemo's other custom commands (such as passing an option)... howto?!

I later figured out could eg. start Konqueror this way but thats not helpful -- there's plenty ways available already to do these things.

And if you make only one custom menu, the second still shows up as a blank entry.

However you must know -- this is a really nice app and I love it! - Aug 14 2004

I gave my 'eth0' the slightly more meaningful alias 'Cable'. However the pop-up status windows (left or middle clicks) still show the name 'eth0' in the titlebar. I think it is logical to see the alias carried forward into child windows. - Aug 14 2004
