Closing all windows certainly should not be achieved by a single click on x otherwise a lot of people would trigger it accidentally and that would piss them off. The way I see it there are two options, either a click on x followed by a dialog box confirmation or a right click to open the dropdown menu with the option 'Close all applications'. Both require two steps making it less likely for it to happen accidentally.

I believe minimized windows should also be closed, or maybe it could be an option.

About the minimize and maximize toggle buttons I'm really not sure, maybe you could consider having one of them unminimize all currently minimized windows.

I think it is important also to have a visual indication if clicking a button will yield a different action than normal, otherwise usability suffers. What I mean is that if clicking on x will close all windows than at that moment x should be of a different color than normal, so that the user realises what will happen if he/she clicks that button.

About the session management suggestion you're probably right, I'm a bit obsessed with saving screen space and that's why I suggested it but I see it could potentially be confusing to users since it changes the main focus of the applet. - Aug 31 2009

I have a couple of suggestions for the developer, maybe you'll find them useful.

First I think it would be helpful to have a way to close all open windows with a single command, maybe using the right click menu so that it is hard to trigger it unintentionally.

The second suggestion would be to include session management options like logout, restart, shut down and lock screen whenever the desktop is active (since having maximize, minimize and close buttons at that moment is pointless anyway). I think it makes sense since people using this applet are trying to save screen space and that way we wouldn't need the dedicated session management applet.

By the way, thanks for the work so far, this is one of the most useful applets available. - Aug 26 2009

Window settings are forgotten every time I restart folderview. (I mean lock, sticky, widget, keep above, keep below).

I'm using Scr1.2 and FV0.5.8. - May 13 2009

This has been the behaviour with emerald for a while when you disable decorations (so obviously nothing to do with this gnome-panel applet). My solution was to stop using emerald (which I agree isn't really a solution, but given that, to my understanding, emerald isn't being developed any longer I don't expect this to be ever solved). - May 10 2009

Never mind, now I see the developer mentioned this already. - May 01 2009

I've been doing this for a while using scripts but this makes life simpler. Also with compiz it is possible to make window-decoration disapear when maximized with command
Any & !(state=maxvert & state=maxhorz)
