Easily the best theme in KDE but when the theme is configured for Tiny Borders the theme is a couple pixels off from the sides.

On that script, I like the error handling, and the support for mutliple Suse versions.

I like the KDE specific functionality on mine better. And colored output is nice ;-) OK, OK, so I need to work on it a little. I will do better with version 0.2. Thanks for the input.

Somebody PLEASE buy this guy a beer. KDE has this wonderful support for kfile meta data and few people who actually work on making new ones. GREAT work, thanks doing the programming that makes KDE a much more polished desktop but doesn't get the attention that random-new-app-with-transparent-windows does. Its a fairly common (even sophomoric) mistake to conclude that "improving usability and performance" is done by dropping features. It is a false dichotomy. This is the open source world and you are welcome to do as you like, but your efforts will not, unfortunately, help make KDE a better desktop.

gambas 2

Developers Apps by gambas 30 comments

I can understand the point of GTK bindings for Gambas but what is the point of creating an entirely new frontend for it? Will it make Gambas a better application? No... its already a GREAT application and a new frontend would simply re-implement something that already works.

O well, I guess that is simply the way Open Source software works... but it seems as much a waist of time as when some developer was working on KDE-frontended version of the Gimp.

Krecipes

Various KDE Stuff by fungmeista 18 comments

My wife and I have already come to depend on Krecipes. I would really like to see a "Get Hot New Stuff" function added it to it. BTW as Steven pointed out, you REALLY shoud post a release announcement to the kde-announce mailing list. Evidently lots of web and print magazines only track application releases that have been announced on that mailing list.

Thanks for all the great work.

kconfigure

Developers Apps by brockers 37 comments

Glad you like the program:

1. If "Check Install" or "Make Install" is selected as the install type (you can find the option in the Build menu) it should pop-up a root password request when installing. If it is not doing this for you please let me know.

2. There is. In the configuration dialog choose Check Install. There is a text area (version 2.1) titled Custom Options. There you can pass checkinstall whatever install options you like. Check out the checkinstall man-page for information on available options. But there definitely needs to be a per-build option for this (as opposed to a system wide configuration)... something along the lines of the "Configure Help" tool. Thanks for the idea, I will add it to the TODO.

3. All generated RPM files are "dumped" into your systems RPM build directory. This is set by RPM itself and not by either checkinstall or Kconfigure. You can change the default install location (for the root user, who is the user building packages for checkinstall) by creating a file in your roots home directory called .rpmmacros and adding this line to it:

%_rpmdir /location/where/I/want/my/rpms

Hope that helps.

4. Its like you read my mind! Check out the TODO file in Kconfigure's source. It lists the planned features for Kconfigure. A setup wizard and an application wizard are DEFINITELY planned, but I have to get a little more infrastructure work first.

Thanks for the feedback... home this helps with some of your concerns.

Dropdown Terminal

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by FishB8 28 comments

You get set a key combination to drop down the window (like in quake) but if you wanted to add functionality to auto drop down it would be fairly easy to do. The other nice part about kuake is that you can configure it to drop from the top, bottom, left, or right.

Konqueror GUI Ideas

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by PaT 12 comments

I know that everyone is going gaga over the side bar tabs but I honestly disdain them. Here is why:

-- They substitute horizontal space (which we have plenty of) for vertical space (which we have much less of.) It also takes up a good deal more cubic space than the current universal sidebar.

-- They reduce the overall functionality because more mouse clicks are required to access the same functionality.

-- It has a definite "Gnome" look to it... it copies the look of nautilus which (by its very nature) is MUCH less functional than Konqueror.

All of these functionality loses for a tool used mostly by more advanced users (which is fundamentally the people who most often use the file manager.) Even on web browser mode I wish that firefox's sidebar worked more like konquerors'.

I am all in favor of KDE adding the OPTION of using tabbed sidebars for those who wish to do so, but I honestly hope that we never make it the default. That said, this is simply my opinion and everyone is more than welcome to ignore it. And no one is going to keep you from writing the code to implement them.

Ya, I saw your post. Anytime you deal with pictures they are gonna want assurances that you took the pictures or that you have 100% distribution rights to the pictures. Its the only way to protect KDE from lawsuites. That said, I cannot wait to see them in KDE. - Nov 01 2004

I would hate to see you stop developing on this application. We have needed a game browser for kde for a long time... and this easily looks like the best. That and I like the Gamespy/XQF style better than the all-seeing eye approach.
