Hi there :)

This sounds like a very useful script! I was wondering if it would be possible to integrate as an additional cover source in your extension. I find that usually yields better results for non-english artists than Amazon. And they have a very simple api (see and in particular ). I filed this as a wish on Amarok a while ago but so far didn't receive a response.. If you could add this to your script that would be awesome! - Jul 07 2008

Dragon Player

Video Players by eean 278 comments

Well, I disagree. Sometimes I'm streaming a football match or a tv show while browsing or working. Using minimal mode in combination with keeping the window above all others really rocks in those situations, keeping as much of my other program visible as possible.

I understand your concerns about there being no UI in minimal mode, but what about showing the toolbar at mouseover, in the same way as happens now in fullscreen mode? That way it won't confuse anybody, right? :) - Jan 14 2008

I'm trying to change my include list now, but every time I add a directory to it the list is wiped clean. So for example, the list is populated with /etc end /home, then when I want to remove /home (that goes fine), and add /home/me/documents or something, but then when the folder selection dialog closes, the include list is empty.. I can add my folder, but then when I want to add another folder the same thing happens..

When I manually type in the path everything goes fine btw.

Incidentally, in my konsole there are a lot of messages like this:
kmdr-executor: WARNING: Pixmap not found for mimetype inode/directory
but I don't think that really has something to do with my problem, does it? :) - Dec 09 2007

System Software by dsvilko 44 comments

Ah yes, I see it now. The Konqueror window confused me since I was using Retrospekt from Dolphin. My bad :) By the way, any chance that in a future version Retrospekt could use the split-window abilities of dolphin for going back in time? That would seriously rock!

Another thing I noticed (mostly due to the absence of an exclude list), is that when I backup my home directory, stuff like the trash folder also gets backed up. This can be a serious waste of space I think, so maybe it would be nice to include some sensible defaults when you get around to finishing the exclude list :)

Again, thanks for a great job, I'm really enjoying this app so far! - Dec 07 2007

System Software by dsvilko 44 comments

Thanks :)

I thought of some more issues: During installation the dolphin servicemenu couldn't be copied because the d3lphin/servicemenus subfolder didn't exist yet. Now, after I copied it manually, it loads up an instance of konqueror (pointed at my home directory) whenever I use it.. - Dec 07 2007

Where can I see/change at what time rsnapshot performs its daily run?

Also, I can't seem to add entries to the exclude list. Both the add and remove buttons are grayed out :(

I think this site isn't the best place to ask for feedback on this kind of thing, most people here are end-users, not distro maintainers (who I think are more suited as audience for your app). You could try some distibution mailing lists and ask for feedback there, or maybe try to work together with a small start-up distro..

Good luck with the app! - Aug 27 2006

Are those screenshots still up to date? I have installed it, the about box gives me 1.2-rc1 as version number, but it has no search tab, and in the configure dialog there is a "Plugins" page instead of a "Search" page, with no plugins listed. Amarok 1.x Scripts by RuddO 66 comments

What about the poor people who are on dialup? Honestly asking that? Well, they could download the script (less than one minute) and open it with their favorite archiver, then read the README. Yes, they could. But will they actually do that? Personally, I'd lose interest pretty quickly and move on to something else that's clear about what it does on first sight. Also, in less then one minute it's possible to write a short description. So what's the big deal? The fact that I made an "incomplete" release (short on time, no shots available) does not give anyone entitlement to criticize the software on the basis of non-available information instead of its actual performance. Actually, you just experienced that it does. You may not like it, but that's how things seem to work. If you want people to try out (and possibly like) your software, you need to provide it in such a way that means the least amount of hassle for the user. If you don't, you should at least accept that there will be people asking for additional information about the software over and over again.. - Nov 20 2005

Amarok 1.x Scripts by RuddO 66 comments

Well then, what about people that are on dial-up and find your app on this site without any information about what it does? Do you think they will be interested to download your app and all it's dependancies before knowing what it does? Also, this site ( is a voluntary site, being run by an individual investing his/her personal time and money in storage space, bandwidth and maintenance. All they ask for it is that the stuff people put on this site is accompanied by a little description and possibly some typical screenshots, to make the use of this site and the finding of a useful app easier. Don't you think that's fair? Now let's stop arguing about this, the description and screenshots are there, so let's talk about the app, shall we? - Nov 20 2005

A feature I really like in KInstaller ( ) is that it keeps a list of apps installed by it and gives the option of uninstalling them. It also automatically backups and removes the original tarball upon succesful installation. Does Kompile do this too? - Oct 17 2005

Kommando doesn't respect screen borders, sometimes allowing half the wheelmenu to disappear.

Please allow moving of items in the menu design so I don't have to delete everything and reconstruct when I want a new app on a special place. Also, kommando sometimes kind of "turns" the wheel arrangement, if you understand what I mean.. I like to keep those items on a fixed place in the menu. - Oct 12 2005

Another request: Please implement DCOP calls to show/hide the menu (preferably a 'toggle' function). I want to bind it on my laptop to an acpi-button so I can only issue a command on keypress. I should be able to solve it with DCOP.

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by TheDocter 125 comments

Yeah, I really like how this app works, and already eliminated one kicker panel with it:) It could become a real kicker killer for me. I have some suggestions to improve it and really make it awesome:

1) Make it keyboard-navigatable. I know this app is mouse-centric, but for some laptop users it may be handy to be able to use the keyboard with this app if no external mouse is available. Just some navigation with the arrows or numeric labels for all items would be fine.

2) In the same way, represent all running windows (using a different shortcut, of course). Sort of like a task bar/komposé crossover.

Keep up the good work! - Oct 02 2005
