As I can understand it, in summary, you can distribute this image freely, but you have to provide information on the license and author. If you modify it, you also have to include a link to the original image, on kde-look.org.

Actually the wallpaper is rendered completely with Blender, so there's no place where you can see an image of the gear without its background. But if you're interested to use Blender (which is Free Software), I can send you the gear model. - Mar 30 2005

It was not the purpose... It's just too bad Microsoft took colors as common as the name of their operating system. Common, red, green, blue and yellow ! But maybe I should make a version with less colors (but it would lose a bit I think). - Dec 01 2004
